Welcome to MTO fellow Texan.

Never warmed up to my stainless Spydie.

Thanks! I've been a long time lurker, but finally decided to post. I'm pretty busy with my YouTube channel and IG account, but I really want to get more involved with modding- and this forum is the best I've ever seen. I like the Stainless Endura more than my FRN FFG- Firstly, I'm a welder- so it won't melt- Second, it has zero front to back blade play- unlike any of my other FRN Spydie lock backs. Cheers my friend, see ya 'round!

My bladeless MP600:-

The awl was the PE blade, the ex-EVO saw replaces the SE blade hopefully just as a place-holder for something longer.

I really like the BN capability after too many needlenose pliers.  A small touch off the jaws to fit gas meter boxes.  The cutters NIB were very poor on fine wire, the worst of any of my major brand MTs,  but after a tickle off the jaw cut-outs now cuts great.  A real advantage of replaceable cutters.   Really disappointed the file doesn't have a cutting edge.  IMO a major product omission.

Nice mods. I like what you did with the pliers head.

:tu: A few days late here too.

Sadly (or not), fully blunting and making my Spirit knifeless has destroyed the BN MP600 rationale.  Flicking to get pliers is just about OK but I don't like parallel plier handles.  Neither do I like having to deploy the pliers and then only be able to half open the handles to get at the tools, particularly the longer tools.

I only bought the MP600 for BN and it wasn't cheap but my BN Spirit easily has it licked.  Still in the club (just) but not sure for much longer.

I own an MP600, club membership is in question though
I really wish I liked this MT more ,  every so often it is given another day of  carry
I do  like the pliers  one hand opening feature and the narrower span between the handles

After shattering the carbide cutters ( admit abuse here) I replaced them, but now,  not sure of  their ability to hold  up to hard use

Timber yes, Timber Yard Road no, it's the reserve at the end of Days Road by the Lower Selwyn Huts.

I used the wire cutters on my MP600 BN the other day. They're not good at all. Not big enough to cut through a power cable in one go. Cutting single stranded wire of 16 gauge half pinches it and half cuts it.

REALLY poor execution on the wire cutters, Gerber. Especially for the MT electricians are likely to choose.

At first, I thought carbide cutters would be brilliant, but reading about the breakages really made me realize that Leatherman's choice of 154CM was better: not brittle enough to shatter, but harder than anything likely to need cutting.

I need to try the standard cutters on an MP400. They should at LEAST be able to cut a coat hanger and 10 gauge wire without any drama. If not, I might be off of Gerber for good.

Their overall quality is just not there.

That sucks. I wasn't impressed with the cutters either. On the upside, I will take the BN600 off your hands when your done with it

If you look where the cutters meet, you'll see that there is a tiny gap closest to the pivot. And the gap gets a bit larger further out. I'm pretty happy with the performance, but I don't cut much with them. Mostly cable ties and other simple things. No problems there.

But it's clearly a design issue, they just need to machine the carbide cutter seats a bit deeper and the cutters would meet closer and cut much better. You can cut paper with the 154CM cutters on Leatherman tools, so they clearly got that right. (Used to own a Rebar, gave it to my sister)

I'm on the fence about getting a carbide cutter version with the stories about shattering inserts. A lot of people complain about the 600 design but I would trust one with my life!

Don't do it, unless you absolutely don't need a wire cutter. Because the carbide cutter is garbage. It doesn't cut any wire well. The other stories say if you try to cut thick solid gauge wire or steel coat hanger wire, the carbide shatters.

I traded off my MP600 BN. Just received a bladeless MP600. Both were brand new.

I think what happened is that Gerber designed in a bit more tolerance to the plier head, since if the carbide cutters actually met, they would shatter. But since they don't get close enough, they just kind of bend and half-shear wire. It is an utter design failure.

With that, I'm out of this club. Looking forward to receiving another MP400.

BUMP

Who else here loves the handle splay of the MP600? It puts the new LM Signal to shame IMO.

I'll add that I prefer the regular wire cutters as opposed to the replaceable ones because in my experience they cut better.

Anyone share my love for this tool? ???

Would you say the Diesel is better or the same as the pro scout?

That's one I struggle with.  I would say overall they are the same to me, but each has pluses and minuses.  I like the Pro Scout's pliers and ease of flickiness better as the Diesel's is a little tougher/trickier to flick.  Neither has a metal saw, but the PS's remgrit saw could potentially do the job.  The Diesel has a wood saw, although the remgrit may handle that too.  Diesel is heavier too, but I prefer how it feels in hand.  It has the 2D phillips, but also has the largest flathead while the PS doesn't.  I think the Diesel slightly edges out the MP600 for my liking, but it's very close.

Makes sense. I was comparing the two and it seems to come down to very few differences. The pro scout also has the 3d phillips, blade exchanger, and the USA tag. I eventually want to get a pro scout because I had a diesel and it would be nice to compare the two in hand. Thanks for the feedback
