BN FTW!  :D Love Gerber's blunt nosed tools, they are unique in the market. Neither SOG, LM nor Vic do proper Blunt Nosed tools  :tu:

That is definitely the best plier head for some applications. Whenever I do lamp restorations, and you cannot use NN pliers to remove 3/8" IPS nuts(tips go into a state of torsion), the BN pliers are perfect.  I used the Pinchy BN pliers for years at my last job doing antique lighting repair.

Would anyone know if this model this a MP600?  I know for a FACT it is 22 years old. I picked it up in Okinawa Japan around 1995 or 96.. It is one tough MT. Only markings on it is, USA, Stainless, and of course the Gerber name. The closest MT it resembles is the  MP600. It is government issue...I worked in supply, we get all the good stuff  :D

Well, this showed up on Friday.  It's a Pro Scout. I've wanted one for a long time.  My scissors do not say Fiskars and my file does not say Simonds so I'm assuming this is a later model  I don't remember if there is supposed to be a lanyard loop but there doesn't seem to be one.  Bought it as used but there's not a mark on it.

I had to mod the gerber MP600 to the fullest, I just need a better pocket clip. (Image removed from quote.) Just like my new project Gerber Suspension with mods that are pending....(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)(Image removed from quote.)

Where does one get those hacksaw blades for modding? I want a couple in various multi tools!

Charles.

I've had a MP600 for a few weeks now, but haven't carried it because I didn't have a sheath and I had other tools I liked carrying better. I figured the Gerber would be a garage-only tool. I even modded it by removing the can opener and adding a large flat driver from a different MP600 model, and I replaced the combo-edged blade with a plain edged blade. But even in the garage, without a sheath it wasn't that fun to use. I was about to go hunting for one, but instead I had a spare Nite Ize clip, and figured I'd mod (read: dremel and file) that to fit and see how I liked it. And friends, I LOVED IT. It's set up for a nice deep carry, and it works really well.

So anyways, this weekend was the first time I carried it on my person. I've been carrying a multi in a pouch on my belt for a loooong time, and it felt really nice to have that freed up, and still have a capable multitool with me. Of course, if I have a MT on my belt, I can have a nice folder clipped on my pocket, but everything is a compromise. With a SAK in the coin pocket and the MP600 deep in my front pocket, I felt far more comfortable, and yet still fully capable for most jobs. I still like my Coleman Pro Lock for its utility and versatility, especially with the extra modded cartridge I built, but the MP600 is beefier and it's a little more fun to play with. The inside-opening tools aren't that annoying because deploying the pliers is fun :)

So anyhow, I'm enjoying this MP600 quite a bit. Got a few saw blades on order and am thinking about a few other mods, but for the most part I'm happy with this thing now, and I intend to carry it more often in my rotation! Pics show clip and mods separately. Put the clip on after I took the mod photo.

Charles.

Hello everyone; just joining in, and to present to all of you my "accesory" hack. Both of my MP's are of the Basic variant; S&H was somewhat prohibitive for a pro scout to be shipped to PR; what to do when you want a saw? ... well, as I looked through MT.O, got some inspiration with the Paul Chen's Multitasker/Fiskars' Excalibur! It is a t-shanked jigsaw blade modified with a Dremel and a 1/4" grinding stone, made to fit between the chassis/handle and opener. As a matter of fact, the only "mod" was so that it would fit over the pivot; widthwise was spot on! Hope you all like it, as it has been great on PVC and copper tubing, 1/4" plywood, and thermoplastics. Ohhh, I forgot!; the other "mod" made was the amateurish nail nick!!

Evening , just got a MP600 basic , it’s been years since I had one and it feels like having an old friend back. Is it me or has Gerber build quality improved ?

Dunc! Hello mate  :waving:

I reckon they're the same tank like quality they always were. The only real change, is it's hard to find a new 600 with integral cutters these days. Unfortunately, they've moved towards doing the evaporating carbide cutters as standard.
