Glad it wasn't a total failure, Juan!

Indeed those inserts are ridiculously priced. I wish they would make some 154CM steel replacement cutters, as they'd be cheaper to make and not be prone to breakage so much.
Pontificating particularly pious positions pertaining to polymorphic paraphernalia. G-Man.

YES, GLBM; indeed, that is what I like about the Super Tool 300: the 154cm replaceables! They've taken a beating and still nice and sharp! Wish Gerber did the same, or even from "tool steel",  as only then will they have the closest-to-perfection tools (IMHHO)
Until then, there integrated cutters are the best when sharpened.
Anyhow, thanks! :hatsoff:

Well, it has been close to 6 months now since my ownership to this great tool. Sadly, and as almost everyone knows, it is now just time to wait "for it to happen" ; one of my tungsten cutters is nicked from hitting the other while I was pulling tight a wire twist and, pliers slipped and closed upon each other. Although still functional, I'd guess it is now a thing of "when" than rather "if" they'll explode! Just ordered replacements (dang they're gettin' expensive!). Ranting aside, here's the "BOD" (Black Oxide Duo) with a new "partner" just in :mail::

Each blade has 3 sides right? So you can rotate it until all 3 sides are damaged. Seems pretty convenient to me.

Indeed, but, once tungsten carbide is stressed (and the nick is at the bolt grip end; and the brittleness of the metal) it's just a matter of waiting. But thanks anyway! :tu:

Got it. Luckily I haven't had that happen yet.

Nice fisherman, mpgt! I wonder why they discontinued  THAT awl! And the sheath ...
Is the back part the one in kydex?

It is a really great tool. I often wonder why it was discontinued too, without a good replacement. The sheath was custom made for me after the needle nose wore through the original nylon sheath. It's molded in kydex and riveted to leather. It's perfect!

I don't think it will ever wear through the kydex AND...here's the best part. The kydex molds perfectly to the shape, and holds the sliding release pins just enough to fully open the tool, every time I pull it out. An unexpected benefit and nice when there's a nice fish in one hand with real sharp treble hooks in his mouth.

Sorry to keep asking but, does it has a belt clip or loop; can it be scout/ horizontal carry? Of it can be scout carry, it IS a perfect sheath!
Thanks in advance, mpgt.

No problem at all. It's a vertical belt carry (loop). I'll get a pic of the back. I'm sure he could design it any way you wanted.

I'm finally in again!

MP600 Blunt Nose, no carbide inserts, plastic tool lock tabs, metal slide buttons.
Anyone know when they were made in this setup? Early 2000's?

Nice find, Mechanikal, it appears to be almost unused!!  :tu:

You are about right on the dating, since my(very little) understanding puts the tungsten carbide cutters in the MP's around 2003-4.
Does yours have "Fiskars" branding on the scissors; is it a clip point plain edge knife?

Again, congratulations on your find!

Nope, no scissors at all :D

And I wouldn't call the straight blade a true clip point...

The tool does look mostly unused.
The Philips driver shows some signs of use and the plain edge blade was rolled and showed a nick, but that's already solved :D

Right you are, M. Looking back at the archives, it is  described as a drop point blade. Edit- yours appears to be a Blunt-nose Basic model.
I'm wondering if I can retrofit such a blade for the wharncliffe in mine ...

Here's the newest- recently-arrived member of the Gerber's: a NIB blunt nose (and already sporting my metal saw blade hack!), with "siblings".  :tu:

BTW, any ideas as of why it is of the "newer-logo" but has no date stamp etched? Could it be that's a NOS from the early-new-logo At first I thought of being a CF but, why copy the crappy cutters!?
Compared to the others, quality and stamping is spot on; no play between pliers, or tools, sharp blades, same anti clump spacers, same fonts used. Just wondering.

Just bought a broken, busted, horrible condition MP600. All the flat drivers, the file, and the combo blade are broken. Scissors are a little loose. Strangely the phillips driver appears only lightly used. But I got it cheap and essentually bought it for the remgrit blade holder and nothing else.  The weird part is, it has a DET plier head. It's obviously far newer than the rest of the tool, and only shows a few marks on the wire cutters.

So... do any modders want a DET plier for a project?

Charles.

If you were to dispose of the scissors, let me know as I'd be interested.

Sorry, I just used the scissors to complete a Pro-Scout lookalike. Assembled all the parts from misc tools I acquired for other purposes. Has a full compliment of the 3 flat drivers (including the large flat driver, so one more than the Pro-Scout), file, and scissors on one side. On the other, it has a combo blade, can opener, phillips driver, and saw blade.

The remgrit holder went back into my first Gerber multitool I ever owned, my original Pro-Scout... which I had stolen the remgrit holder from to put in my Center Drive. (I also converted this one to bladeless and added a large flat driver).

The rest of the tools I either threw out or put in my bag o spares.

Charles.

I scored a BO blunt nose on eBay for $20, should be here in the next week. It has a broken blade, but still... for $20 that's no big deal. As long as the plier head is in good condition I plan to swap it into my EDC 600. I am pretty excited bc this one is the blunt nose without replaceable carbide inserts. I've had a pair of the inserts shatter on me before so I am very skeptical of their capabilities, especially considering how expensive they are.
