Not mine but just figured out someone got a 975sbt on reddit's Benchmade sub. I imagine they are worth over $300 now? I couldn't find any recent sales for the guy.

He got it for $100.  :ahhh

I don't have a Benchmade folder. Question is …..
Should I be looking at one?
To  all the Benchmade owners here .. having had one, if you didn't have one would you in hind sight get one?

This is considering that the local knife store here they're 300+
Would you pay that?
All +/- replies appreciated.

Wow...300usd for a benchmade!  What models are we talking about here?

I really do think the answer kinda depends on why you want one and the budget.

If it is for collecting purposes, well, BM is BM, so there are a few classics that you will only get from BM--I personally think Griptilian and 940 are the faces of BM.  However, the novelty of axis-lock have subsided due to IP expiration, and you probably can find other brand that offers axis lock as well.

Quality is pretty good.  I once baton firewood with a Griptilian for half an hour, at the end of it, only some loosen screws and no visible chip/damage to blade(I think it was S30V, surprisingly good).  I know, I know, it often views as plain stupidity to do such thing, but now I have a very solid data point about the quality of steel/construction/lock of that knife.

When it comes to QC, I would recommend getting one in hand before purchasing it.  There are a lot of reports in State side about the inconsistent QC, but the good thing is BM has a pretty good warranty, so most people would just ship it back for a replacement or repair.  But getting it oversea is a different story, the shipping/tax could be a problem.

In terms of value, with the rise of (semi) mid-tech and Chinese manufacturers in recent years, I think many knife enthusiasts would start questioning whether it is worthwhile to pay the BM tax(or premium).  With the same money, you might even find better material/feature/design used from many manufacturers.

I have a Buttload of Benchmades and I don't think I have a single one that I bought new?

I have had great luck buying pre-owned and save a whole lot of money doing so and that is sure how I suggest getting into one if there is a used market to draw from in your area?

Now some of mine were brand new when I got them but someone else took the hit and bought them that way and then just never used them?
I rarely do that and try to use all of mine.

I have sure read about issues too but have not really had anything that I could not easily work out myself either.

I am sure people can get a bad one but I have not.

These are not Nuclear Reactors, they are tools and most tools can be tweaked if made correctly in the first place and my Benchmade experience has been that they all were.

And yeah, there is no other knife that I have handled that duplicates an AXIS lock like the original to me.

Thanks ezdog  :salute:
I would use it. Hear  a lot of people talking benchmade ( eg. this thread) was a thought so asked the question.

Comis. Thanks, I’m in Aus. I was talking AUD. and it was a 940 I believe.

Maybe will go and handle one and see.

Osborne is a really classic model, I have the 940-2 and love the G10 and the blade shape.  I heard a lot of good things about 940 original, but could never warm up to the green/purple color handle.  Flick it open a few times, and I was hooked, great knife.

At the current exchange-rate, that would-be about $208 USD's.  I have paid that much, and more for a 'Benchie'.  I would still have bought my AFO, and Adamas models in hindsight.  My knives span-the-spectrum; between Swiss Army pocket-folders, and clip-mounted zombie-stoppers.  In most instances, you get-what-you-pay-for.  I never understood people who spend money on 'junk-knives', and then viciously complain, when they inevitably fail to perform.  The old adage applies:  buy once, cry once!  I'm currently, looking at a Cold Steel 4Max, which usually retails ca. $260 USD's.  If I want something bad-enough, I'll figure a way to get-it.  As fellow member ez stated:  the 'axis-lock' is one of the strongest on the market, along with Cold Steel's 'tri-lock' from Demko.  Really hard to beat Benchmade's Black Class of hard-use knives, and they stand-behind their products with a good industry warranty.  Also, consider there are a number of other high-end knife-brands [SOG, Spyderco, Cold Steel, etc.] just as good as Benchmade.  In the end, it's up-to-you on how much your willing to pay, or not.  For performance, and quality knife-people are the best resource for questions.  But you have to realize we are enablers too. :D >:D  Good luck, on you quest.  Stay sharp!!

No kidding,  :iagree: totally!

I think most Osborne designs in the Benchmade lineup are great, except the 470/477 which I really think the guard could be a little oversized and the handle a little short.  But few other Osborne series will go down history as Benchmade classics.

I got a minigrip in a trade awhile back, it has never been super sharp though, will Benchmade sharpen any knife you send them or do they have to be purchased from the site? I think it's cpm154, dont have it in front of me atm, but I'm not confident in putting an edge on it myself.

BB, I think you can send it to Benchmade to get it resharpened.

CPM154 is a great steel and fairly easy to sharpen. I bet you can put a sweet edge on it.

Hard used my Rift (154CM) out in the garden yesterday.

Cut up miles of old, dried jute twine and some bamboo.  I figured it would need to be resharpened today, but, a bit to my surprise, a few swipes on the strop brought it back to hair shaving sharp. Benchmade certainly does seem to do a nice job with their 154CM.

Awesome knife Nix.  I liked it but wanted to make sure it would be something in hand I really liked.  I got a knock off and it was amazing.  I ended up gifting it to my partners son.  I then looked for one and whoa, discontinued and spendy.  I realized after a while that I am more a small knife guy.  DF in ZDP is about the best darn knife thats happened to me yet.  I still cannot thank you enough.  :hatsoff:

I'm super-happy that you are still digging that DF. What an awesome knife!

I love the Rift (partly sentimental, mostly utilitarian), but if I had to recommend one (1) Benchie to anyone, it would be the Griptilian. That design is fantastic as an all-around knife.

Edit: specifically, this one (stock image):

I can't stop carrying this one since getting it and it even has an issue with the scales!

The combination of texture, weight and handling is just better than any others that I have tried and I have tried several!

The Honeycomb Aluminum is just something you have to feel to believe.

Whenever I pull this Anthem out, I just remembered how it felt the first time I played with it and falling in love with it all over again.

I have always loved my Osborne 940, and this Anthem fiddles like a 940 but with a very unique metallic sound whenever you open and close it, thanks to its integral structure.  With recent years of semi-mid tech knives from all these Chinese manufacturers, this may not be the best value knife out there and the BM "tax" does felt high on this.  But it truly is one of those "buy once, cry once" deal.
