Vic, bring back the clip!

Until they do, I'm carrying my Wenger RangerClip, rare though it may be.

Posted this with the October Minimalist Challenge, but since it used a Wenger it qualifies for Wenger Wednesday too! Set the spark plug gap using the combo tool on a Wenger EvoGrip 64 (Wenger's evo version of an Apprentice). Sadly this model did not survive the 2013 Delemont product line downsizing. Got mine from a dude in the Ukraine and it seems these were generally available only in Eastern Europe, Ukraine, Russia and other former states in the USSR. The combo tool has a shallow wedge cross-section. Had to calibrate how far into a tip on the combo tool was .030 inches, the specified plug gap. Had a calipers handy that could be locked to specific gap with a setscrew . . .

Was much better than I had hoped - just getting the tip over the electrode would set .030 inch gap! Easy to use that!!

Bob's Your Uncle! Gap set and new plug was installed this morning. This photo shows the EvoGrip 64 and its combo compared to a (sterile) Vic Apprentice which has all the same functions as the Vic combo found on the Compact, Scientist, Apprentice, Waiter, etc. Has a wire stripper and bender notch identical to the Vic, but it's not visible when half open from this camera angle.

Well I've just bought a Wenger on Wenger Wednesday, it's described as a "very good" condition Wenger Traveller - will be my first 85mm cellidor Wenger model. Doesn't have a keyring attachment, so not sure how best to carry it, but it'll be different and only cost £10. Will post pics when I get it.

Hadn't thought about it until just now but the minimalist today is a Wenger EvoGrip 64! It's the Wenger Evolution version of the discontinued 84mm Victorinox Apprentice. You won't see these much. They seem to have been marketed mostly (if not all) in Eastern Europe, Russia, the Ukraine and other former USSR countries. Used it this morning to open a can. Combo tool does the job, but there is a learning curve to using it for that effectively and efficiently as it's also a bottle opener and flat-tip. Aside from the main spear point blade and T&T, the back layer has an excellent #2 Phillips driver that's shaped with enough point to use in some #1 screws while not being so pointed that it bottoms out in the #2 heads I've used it on (a problem the Swiza Phillips apparently has).

Not nearly as pretty and neat as a rolling wheel, gear driven kitchen can opener, but you won't starve or need to use the Crazy Russian macho method for opening cans (bayonets were commonly used for this; Rambo-like but not recommended as it ruins knives) . . .

or one of the other bushcraft methods, which work well, but take longer with more effort.

Actually I can post some pics now, so I can join Wenger Wednesday virtually - here's two from the seller:
