Wenger kiddie-safe blade or grinder job?
on: May 18, 2014, 03:06:22 PM
I recently got a job lot of SAKs from ebay, mainly Vics, but there were a few wengers in there too and I'm not that familiar with wenger. One in particular is intriguing, as far as I can tell it's an Evolution S17, but the blade is rounded off, whereas in all the pics I've found online they have a standard pointy one.

Any ideas if this is an uncommon version of the S17, or has the previous owner decided to mod it himself?

It's a Junior 03.

A part of the Wenger Junior series, 11 models in total whit that kind of blade.

If you take a look at the Wenger 85mm list you'll find them all about half way down.

I've never quite understood the kid-safe models (both Vic and Wenger).  I've sure managed to cut myself more with the edge of the blade than with the tip.

Most cuts heal with time and a band-aid.
But if you slip off and stab someone?
I think that is the point of the no-point.

I did know a guy who "slipped off and stabbed someone".  He was no kid, it was no accident, and he's doing time.  Very creepy.

In fencing we say: the point beats the edge. So I think you are right, stab wounds tend to be much deeper. However, I don't even want to know what you have to do, in order to stab yourself.
Personally I believe its psychological. It looks more children friendly. Its kinda like wearing a knife in bright colors instead of tacticool black, simply because people react much better to a colorful knife.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

It's partially psychological, no sharp tip will prevent you from even trying to stab something, but also dissuade you from using your SAK as a throwing knife. No matter what MacGyver shows you in the first episode, they aren't meant for throwing. >:D
