Hello ben, thanks again for pointing me here. I have been eyeing the spirit for a long time, does it have the same toughtness as a swisstool x?

I believe it does, yes.  Infact, quite a few of the Spirits tools are actually thicker than those on the Swisstool and also, the flat heads look larger and more durable as well.

You do lose a little length off the tools on the Spirit though.

Glad to know that, like the spirit design. Which one do you use the most the x or the spirit?  like my surge but sometimes its just to darn heavy to carry around, sorry lm123.

TBH, I have only had the Spirit a couple of days, but since it arrived, it has been the MT I have carried.  ;)

For others considering the SwissTool and the Spirit, I think the scissors should be the primary concern.  If you don't mind the added size and weight, go with the SwissTool. If you can, get both and see which suits you more.   You can always put the other in the car or give it away as a gift.

Still the best comparison on the Web, so I thought it best to post here despite the threads age.  Good information is still good information.

Agree, it was a nice read, no matter how old it is. And some newer members get to see it for the first time too.

I have a Swisstool X on the way at the moment so it was nice to see it again. :D

I want to buy my first Swisstool X. Should I pay full price for a brand new version or get a 2nd hand with old style plier head for a bit less? Which version is better if I only want to choose one?

Do you need stronger jaws, or do you need jaws that will open wider?.

I've not really had an opportunity to use the crate opener on my SwissTool X, but I have used and do like the ruler - quite handy to have at times.

It would be nice if the Spirit had a fold out ruler similar to the 91mm fish-scaler, but just rectangular with "square" corners. What could the put on the other side that could also be very thin to keep them even?
