I've been following this thread too.  If you want any additional evidence that you made the right choice, let me tell you about Ollie.

He was my son's English pointer and a fantastic dog. At age 8, a horse kicked him and broke his hind leg.  We had the same choice, amputate or have a surgeon reconstruct.  We went the reconstruction route.  He had a huge external fixator on his leg for a couple months while he healed.  But at the end of two months, he looked more gimpy than at 2 months.  X rays showed an osteosarcoma (malignant bone tumor).  Apparently dogs are at higher risk of them at the site of recent fractures.  If he had just had an amputation, he would have had a long life. He didn't last 6 months.  :(

Good for you!  You made the right choice (IMO)  :salute: :tu:

Animals really are amazing.  It's hard to believe how easily they can overcome adversities so quickly.  A person losing a limb like he did would take months and months to reach the level he's at now.

It blows my mind. The day we brought him home I was worried that we had made the wrong decision. But after seeing his progress I know we did. He is still the same old carefree loving dog he was before. We have been making him take it easy, if it were up to him we would be out in the duck ponds right now.

I'm new here and just found this thread. At the beginning I could feel your pain and I'm so glad it came well. From the video it looks like he's doing great. He's one lucky dog to have your family as his pack!!

He is doing excellent!!! We had a few minor bumps here and there but all in all I would say he has adjusted well and you wouldn't even know anything had happened to him if you didn't notice the absence of his front leg.
