Awesome, Breezy. Very generous of you, and a great tale to go with it  :salute:

I'm with Chako on this - you do enough for me already so I'm not entering, but my first SAK was a cheap knock off of a Camper bought at the beach when I was about 9 or 10 and later I was given a PST copy for a Christmas gift. Not the greatest of tools, but they were more than enough to infect me with "the bug"  ;)

 and good luck to all the entrants  :tu:

Very generous of you and good luck to all.  I'm sitting this out as well even tho I do love a nice PST.

My first MT was a cheap and cheerful and my first LM was a Wingman ( still have it ), I think my first SAK was an Esquire .

1999, I was visiting my friend's home, his father gifted me his used SAK.
It was a nice tool but I did not pay much attention to it, only knew it costs a lot more than I could afford at the time.
It helped me out countless times over the years until it gone AWOL early 2013.
That is the time i realized how much I needed a MT. (I don't have many tools). After intense search effort with no result I went out bought a Vic Craftsman for replacement and found out that the one I lost is a Vic Mechanic, it is still in my house somewhere. ??? I sure hope it will reunite with me someday. The search is still on.

Dec 2013, the $20 Wingman got me totally hooked in Leatherman.

I am addicted to MT now and became a die hard LM fan, won't leave home without one.
The biggest "drawback" of SAK to me is that all their individual tools are the same, just different combination of them to make up different models. Nothing is designed from scratch to meet certain needs. (Exception of spirit and Swiss tool)

My first MT of any sorts was a Wneger. Got it from my graps but don't really know much about it since it hasn't been with me for some 12 years. It got confiscated on a school trip and then misused to it ended up broken.

One great story. I can relate to that as well, as my first SAK was a Classic gifted by my father. He recieved one as gift and I was totally smitten (a scissor in a knife?? that was rad!!!). So eventually he gave me one.

My first multitool was a no-brand PST clone I got for 5€ at a gas stop, I still have it in fact, and it makes for a good back up in the car.

thnx for the oportunity

thanks for the kind words, everyone.

glad to see that you guys enjoyed my story... maybe I'll tell the full version someday. :D sadly, my grandfather passed away in 2004, so those two Tinkers have even more sentimental value now. I also have one of his well-used PSTs. :)

one thing I forgot to mention -- as far as I know, these items should be safe for any international shipments.

thanks for all the cool stories of first SAKs/MTs! and thanks to certain members for helping me keep the list neat and tidy.... you know who you are. my OCD appreciates your help. :D

Very generous of you. Thanks. My first mt was a Sak also, possible a Tinker but I´m not sure as I don´t have it any more.
Besides Saks Mr Pinchys was my first real multitool.
I can really relate to having a latent need.I was really into knives in my youth and had a collection(that got stolen)
Deliberately I stayed away from it for a long time. In a weak moment I ordered a GerberLMFII when it came just because it looked cool thinking -just one for the fun of it.
It kind of opend pandoras box and also led me back to the mt:s.

My first very own SAK, was a cheap knockoff. Still have it, but never really used it. My first real SAK was my dad's old Standard.
My first MT was a True Utility MultiMate. And of course, I still have them, including some of the knockoffs my dad had.

I've always been fascinated by my idea of saks. I had some old rusted sak-alikes from my grandfather and I wanted one for my own.
About 8 years ago I caved and bought a Ranger-clone... it looked pretty enough with transparent blue scales... none of the tools really worked but... well.. this thing fell from 50 cm and the scales were shattered so I was put off about saks.
I was still fascinated by the red knives and the cross logo so last year on my birthday, I asked my girlfriend for one.. the cheapest one she could get.. as long as it's a geniune, shiny, red Swiss Knife - it was a Tinker: I was just blown away by the build quality and usefulness, than I got on a forum with a bunch of enablers (ahem!) and now, 9 months later, I have 18 saks and 3 multitools.

What an awesome giveaway ...  :o

Thank you very much for the chance Breezy12  :salute:.

So, my first knife/tool ...  Somewhere in the mid 80's I got some old cheap pocket knives from my late great-uncle, after that I bought myself a cheap knock off SAK, and it wasn't until '94 that I bought my first "real" multitool, my trusty Leatherman ST (a year or 3 later I bought myself a Mr. Pinchy, but for obvious reasons I didn't carry that one very often ...  ::)).

I carried my ST every day during my years in high school, and even at my first job , until I got myself an old style Wave around 2003, from then I switched between the Wave and the ST.  Around 2008 I bought myself a Skeletool CX and then I got to know this place and things went donwhill very rapidly ...

For years I had been bragging about my Leatherman to every one, saying that it was a real tool and not some piece of cr*p like those Swiss Army toys (still thinking that the knock off SAK I got when I was young was a real SAK ...  :-[).  Until I noticed how a lot of people here liked these SAK's, so I bought myself a Huntsman, and it was only then that I realized that the thing I bought years before had nothing in common with a real SAK.

So, here are some pics  ;).

First my two "old-timers".

And here are the Leatherman tools I had before I found out about this place.

And here's the list  8).

Cool giveaway! :tu:

My first MT was a PST. I would have been around 12 or 13, and my sisters just happened to find it abandoned in a snowbank while sledding down a "private lane" near our house. We'd never seen one before, but I agreed to go ask about it at the nearest house, with the agreement that I'd keep it if no one claimed it. I'm pretty sure the homeowner had no idea what it was- I remember she looked at me kinda like I shouldn't be hanging around. No matter, it was all mine!

What a great giveaway!  I'll sit this one out, but two great prizes there.  :tu:  My first SAK was a Tinker I carried for many years, and gifted to a friend of mine.  It's back with me now though, I missed that little sucker.  :)  If you pressed me on the issue, I'd say the basic Tinker is my favorite SAK - minimal frills, tons of utility.  I've gifted a fair number of them to people.  Some continue to just use the Tinker, while others (looking at you, Lynn  ;) ) have increased the Swiss branch of their family considerably.  My first MT was a Blast purchased about eight years ago.  Right now it resides with a fellow forumite and Blast fan who gave his away.  Negotiations are currently underway to return my first MT back into the fold.......

There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

My first SAK was the Wenger Monarch, given to my by my Brother somewhere around my 18th birthday, which would make it circa 1975.  The PST in the photo was my first multitool, bought by myself in or around 1988.

These two tools, along with the old High Standard 22 magnum derringer, traveled the world with me for many years.  I carried that Wenger until I got the Leatherman, and by then it was very beat up.  The lock doesn't work anymore and the grips are worn and cracked.  The PST I retired when I got my first Wave, probably around the late 90's, or whenever the Wave originally came out.

I lost that original Wave, and thought I'd lost the original PST as well, but found it later on.  the Derringer was given to me by an old friend when I turned 21.  Both he and my Brother are gone now, and these three items are some of my most treasured possesions because there's so many memories tied up in them.  I traveled the Alcan highway twice on a motorcycle and been from the Guatamala border to Alaska and from California to New York with them.

Good days indeed.
