Should I glue these on?

I think it looks good with these scales. I got the scales from Tim. They are going on a 84mm Master Craftsman. Once I glue them on there is no going back.

Start mixing the 2 and 1 epoxy now.

make sure to score the scales with a file prior to gluing to ensure adhesion.

wrap in kleenex and duct tape tightly

use clamps carefully

The wood and brass is classy, do the the scales match up to the liners, or are they not positioned yet?

I say glue those suckers and post another pic when done.

Are you going to apply a varnish, urethane or are the the scales in their finished state?

I'm a bit confused, is this a custom or an original 1950's/1960's SAK?

Full blown custom. :D

And a great job by the looks of it. :hatsoff:

Some tell signs:

Sharpened awl with eye from 1985.

New round phillips.

Two directional saw teeth. (Probably from a MyFirst Vic, right?)

And most importantly the metal file. New stainless steel one available only after 2005 on 91mm SAKs. Looks like GigaHz rounded the tip off to make it more fitting to the 84mm Master Craftsman.

Oh, and the brass liners. ;)

BTW if you have more pics of the build, I'd be interested. :D

EDIT: Looks like GigaHz beat me to it. :D

It took me an hour just to make the birds eye. I got the liners from a machinist friend.

Thanks, I thought it was a custom but I'm still learning the finer points of SAK identification.

That's what I had in mind for a custom but I dread to think what the cost would be. There again there was an original 84mm Master Craftsman on ebay recently that went for about $250.

I know there are some extremely well engineered mods done on SAKs but from an appearance perspective, those brass spacers are the coolest.

Holy cow!! I'm envious.

Where do you get those brass liners/spacers? Can they be bought commercially?

I have a machinist friend make them with a CNC router. They are not cheap, but it takes way to much time to make them by hand. I made a CT34 set all by hand and I was there for days.

Some were $5 each and some were $4 each. It depends on how big the order is.

Yup I used to make all my liners by hand but when I run out this time I will be waterjetting them.  I dont have the patience to cut them out with a jewelers saw again.

I love the look of brass, it really classes up a SAK.   :tu:

Well that's not too bad.

I think it's worth the cost !!

Yea doing the CT34, I went through blades right and left with that jewelry saw. Then the filing starts and your there for hours again. We need to borrow the stamping machine at Switzerland and throw some brass in there instead of the aluminium.
