The easiest and the hardest
on: June 03, 2014, 12:53:13 PM
Just got a Browning Prism II. It's been the hardest one handed blade deploying knife I ever had. I already broke my thumb fingernail and got a sore thumb trying to flip it open. I think I finally got it but it still doesn't work every time.

Before this, the Ka-Bar Dozier Hunter was my hardest knife to open one-handed. I manage to do it fine now and it didn't hurt half as much as the Prism.

On the other hand (pun intended), the Browning Obsession is the smoothest knife I have. I can open it with either hand and it just slides open.

Your turn!

I've got one Browning in my possession that I like, and I will apologize that I can't recall the name. It is essentially a duplicate of the Moki Blackington's Fish Owl. The 3" blade steel is AUS*, but scales are unlined, checkered FRN. Though there is a nail nick, and it's not intended for OHO, I can easily put the pad of my thumb on the nick and swing it open. Very unique, in that regard.

Those are some pretty specimens you have.

The hardest is my CRK small sebenza, I know how the knife community adores CRK and I probably will be prosecuted for a weak thumb.  But swear to God, I wasn't even trying to flip it, and even just plain vanilla opening, I have to place my index finger on the hinge to gain the little extra leverage for thumb to push it open.

Easiest opening is also one of my all time favorites, Brisa Enzo Birk 75.  Solid liner lockup, great detention, smooth easy opening, Scandi grind, S30V, G10 scale.  Great user package, I can't hardly ask for more.

Easiest?  Kershaw OD-2.  Flipper is lightning fast with a little practice.

Hardest?  CRKT Rave.  That thumbstud lock thing is a major PITA to learn how to use.

I only have one, and for sure that's top of the list.  Some older SAK soldiers are also real nail breaker.

I have an old camillus electrician that is impossible to open. Looks brand new, from luck of use. GEC has a few nailbreakers too.

One handed one must be the Case xx Russlock

Easiest.... too many.

A Sebenza, really?! I've always heard those were smooth as butter... I can trade my Browning Obsession for it, if you like.  :D

Those look great, I've been tempted to get one but I already have some Moras for outdoor use and my EDC doesn't meet very hard challenges.

Those look really fun to play with. One of this days I'll end up getting one.

I have a Kershaw Scalion. It's assisted opening and deploys real fast but I didn't count it since it's assisted (like the Volt II). Feels like cheating. Also, I can open my Obsession and Ka-Bar Dozier as fast as these two.

Thanks, I will think about trade once I get over that love-hate relationship. >:D

Birk75 is just plain great, don't miss that one.  I think it's about 100+ usd now, but the quality and simple design beats every Benchmade/Kershaw in the same price range out of the water.  I only find that kind of solidness when I am paying 300+ usd.   :pok:

Easiest:   CRKT M16-14ZSF (not counting the AO knives I still have).  "Flippers" makes opening a breeze.
Hardest:  Gerber Paraframe II (came with the Gerber MP450 - can't get that to open properly).

Hardest would be a Cold Steel Pocket Bushman. Also hardest to close-- terrifyingly so.

Easiest, any of my assisted Kershaws. My Swerve probably just nudges out the rest by dint of a very comfortable flipper.

Unassisted it would be a serrated R.A.M. Holy smokes that thing is smooth, fast and fun.
