As the title eludes, I am a recovering Axis lock-aholic. I snubbed other brands due to my love for the Axis lock.

I passed my Griptilian onto my fiance when I bought myself a Barrage 581. I had the grips done in burlwood and now it's too nice of a knife for me to want to due duty work with.

I am in the market for a Spyderco, and am torn between a few models and whether to get their Salt equivalent.

This will be my EDC beater knife. Occasional fishing, yard work, dirty work, etc. This will be the work horse knife. This will also be carried at work, so Sheeple friendly is always nice.

Endura - Pacific Salt

Delica - Salt 1

Dragonfly - Dragonfly H1

The Dragonfly seems a bit smallish for me, but is Sheeple friendly and I really like the look of the grip. The maintenance free H1 steel is really appealing to me, but this is my first Spyderco (I haven't even handled one in person) and was wondering if I should just go with the standard liners in the handle as opposed to the Salt line. I am seriously torn!

Any advice from carriers of these blades? I could always just get another Griptilian, as I already know their durability and ruggedness (and my love for the Axis lock :)) but wanted to be different and try out Spyderco for a change.

Benchmades to Spydercos  sounds like another addiction forming to me.  I went from none, to 1, to now 4 and counting  with the H1's on my list as well.

NO! I will eventually, but for now wanted to try something different. :)

Something tells me the Delica/Salt 1 would be the most versatile but there's something appealing about the Dragonfly... I don't know why.

Let me set the record straight... I'm only wanting to try out Spyderco to venture into other knife brands. I've read and am told that Benchmade is not the end all be all of knives, so I'll let Spyderco prove it.  :D

So many toys, so little money.  :ahhh

It just so happens that Benchmade is my favorite manufacturer followed only by Spyderco in the 2nd.

First off, the salt blades are nice but do not hold an edge as long.

You can't go wrong with a Delica as it's IMO the perfect sized all-purpose EDC blade as far as Spydies are concerned.

That said, there is simply no beating an Axis-Lock. It's the best locking mechanism ever invented :2tu:

I could always just get another Griptilian. I beat the tar out of that knife and it still locks up solid as a rock. I have until the 22nd to come to a decision. That's when I'll be venturing over to the knife tables at the next fun show.

If you're going to be on or in the water frequently, the H1 steel lives up to its billing.  If not, Spyderco's standard VG-10 might be a better general-purpose blade.

The Endura and Delica are Spyderco's bestselling models for good reason; just decide if you want large or small.  Then pick from an array of colors and features.  Although heavier and not as grippy as the FRN handles, I'm partial to the stainless steel handles.  Picture below shows my stainless Endura with some other pocket goodies.

Another clever option is that either the Endura or Delica can be had with the wave/Emerson opener feature, if that appeals to you.

Benchmade 551 H2O.

That one was on my radar as well. How do you like yours Millhouse? I can't find any serious data on the abuse it's able to take. The Salt series on the other hand has praises everywhere I look.

Sorry, I don't have one. Its also been on my radar for a while, as an alternative to Spyderco's Salt.

So I was all set to give Spyderco a shot...

Then I discovered the Doug Ritter Griptilian. Old knife to some but I hadn't seen it. Too sexy to pass up. I know I wanted a Salt knife or an H2O but that Doug Ritter blade in S30V in stonewash is just  .

Lovely knife the axis lock system and Griptilian design are both big winners.  When you get around to it pick a Spyderco and see for yourself.  I'm all about trying new things and expanding my tool knowledge.  Love to see some pics of your new blade.

Will do, ordering it Thursday. Got a nice chunk of O.T. coming in on the next check to play with.

The Manix 2 is/was looking to be the Spyderco for me to try, but that Ritter caught my eye and I've regretted giving up my first Grip since it left my hands.

Do you have experience with the ball bearing lock?

Just in the stores.  I have been looking to get Griptillian but ended up with some great priced Spydercos.  I have also been intrigued with the Triad locking system.

:tu:  I don't think you would regret it, if you can get one for a decent price.  My new CS Hold Out locks up like a bank vault, with no detectable play in any direction.

I've been looking at the Rajah 3 a lot as well as others.  I will eventually get a Benchmade Griptillian at some point.

So much for getting over my axis lock addiction.

I will get a Spyderco eventually, the Manix 2 really caught my eye. Just undecided between the standard or the Lightweight version.

Forgive the crappy cell phone pictures.
