Old 84mm Recruit Restoration/Mod
on: April 15, 2024, 04:55:20 PM
Picked out this old 84mm Recruit in the SOS Surprise Box GAW.
Decided to restore it and mod it a bit.  All the tools were in great shape, but the liners were a bit corroded.  The Bottle Cap Opener also wouldn't snap closed.  Made some scales out of brass and acid etched the tools and gave them a brass wash.
What it looked like taken apart.

All cleaned up and brass scales drilled and cut out!

All put together and all the tools snap open and closed.

Looks great Lazar! Very beautiful knife.

When you do the brass washing what type of pieces of brass are you utilizing?

I'm just using scrap brass rod (1.5mm, 2.2mm, and 2.5mm) that I cut using a wire clipper into small pieces.  About as long as they are wide.

Looks amazing. I have tried the same and still gotten more of a standard stone wash look. Maybe I need to shake harder or longer.

I have noticed that the darker the tool is, the better the brass wash comes out, just pops a little better.  I do shake pretty hard as well and vary the way I shake.
