I had to have a very specific diameter and thickness to fit the envelope that the knife allows and I was afraid of how many loupes I'd have to buy to find one just right. I'm squeezing a 20mm lens in mine. I just used the same rule that applies to building a precision long range rifle, spend as much on the glass as the gun.

How about using part(s) of a fresnel lens?

Here's a thought. Try a gun sight made for a bb rifle. Daisy has them cheap.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Here's another option for getting the magnifier to fit in a 93mm with out sticking out too far.

It works better than you'd imagine as you can grab it from the sides.

Thinning out the backspring to allow an unmodified magnifier to fit would seem sensible but I'm not going there.  Every time a backspring gets thinned there seems to be a follow up tale of woe about it snapping  :ahhh  I'm just not brave enough :D

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I was worried about the backspring snapping so I made the transition gradual and ground it slowly not letting it get past warm to preserve the temper. Then polished it back up to remove any stress points in the grind lines. Time will tell.

This is one beautiful knife. It looks like you have the pliers and the phillips in the same layer. How does that work?

Optical illusion :)  The pliers are in their own layer.

Anybody try this yet?

It requires a .020" washer to back up the flat driver but it seems to work pretty smooth.

I did one similar. You may want to check to make sure the inline phillips doesn't hit the scales.

A couple of years back (not with bolts though).  I had some galling issues between the tools and the spring if memory serves well  and was so annoyed I just shelved it for "another day". There's probably pictures somewhere here or over on SOSAK.

Like most ideas/projects, "another day" has yet to come around :D

It's .020" thick. I had to make it from bronze that was twice that thickness.
