Nice explorer Steve. How do you change the colour of the mag glass from grey? I have just done a set of walnut scales for mine and it would look better with the plastics In brown.

Just dye. Suspend it over a low boil for about 30 minutes ;)

Okay, here it is... my very first, well, I guess it's a mod... I put an inline phillips/mag-glass layer in a Compact, to make a Yeoman.

It's got one issue, which is that I used the thinner blade from my newer Compact, instead of the thicker blade from the pre '05 Explorer I used for parts.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to yank just the pin on that end of the knife, pull the blade out, and put the older blade in, then install a new pin?  I'm not real thrilled about the idea of taking the whole thing apart again, and I wouldn't have enough bushings left over to do that anyway.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cool. Yes I have done it. Sharpen the pin to a sharp point and oil it. Then push down on the parts or springs, when pushing the pin in.

Cool!  Sounds like a good idea.  I think I'll try that before redoing the entire thing.

Oh, that reminds me... are the scissor thicknesses the same for the pre '05 models and the new models?  I don't see any issue with the scissors layer right now, but I'm considering an entire re-do so I can put the old style scissors with the screw in, instead of the newer ones with the rivet.  So, do you know if the older scissors are thicker than the newer ones, or are they the same?

Thanks again for the encouragement and advice!  This is turning out to be a lot of fun! :D

This is my Victorinox Hunter OE (Outdoor Edition)

Replaced corkscrew with phillips screw driver
Added can opener, crate opener, reamer, tooth pick, tweezers and a needle

Sorry for the bad quality of the fotos, I used my smartphone (and next time I will polish it before... maybe)  ;)

You must be outside the US.  The Hunters here have the backside phillips instead of a corkscrew (and sadly dark green dual density scales).

Exactly. I bought this one:

And in the US you have this one:

looks great!  looks like functional knife there.

does the can opener lock like the OHT or just a regular one like on the Hercules?

Thank you. I really like it. It's a compromise between size and having all tools i basically need.

I used the layer with can opener, crate opener and reamer (including lock for blade and crate opener) of a 2008 Soldier knife http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Soldier+2008 it's like this here http://www.sakwiki.com/show_image.php?id=1062.

I was checking these out a while back.. It kind of worries me that the scale might come off if you attach the knife to something with a clip like that?

Totally agree.  That may work in short term, but I can't believe long term it wouldn't just pull the scale off. Now... if you had a metal plate inside like they use, but that the main rivet goes though, then this screws into it, that would be very strong.

That's similar to the way I did the super soldier. But what I did was to drill and tap screw holes in the liner and used a threaded bushing as a spacer. Much tighter IMO and as far as I know it's still holding strong.
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

Oh right you did use a clip like that I forgot.  If you got attached to a liner I would think that would be strong enough.   :tu:
