@Grumpy:

It's a scrimshaw technique as originally suggested by user ong.

I modified it a bit. I use a shield as a model.
1. Lay it on the scale and use a very thin needle to outline it. Then use a needle and a sharp scalpel to scratch and cut the needed material away. Be patient and very careful.

2. Repeat first step until the shield fits into the scale.

3. Use Epoxy and mix it with some dust from your wood.

4. Glue the shield in the scale. (It's very ok to cover your inlay with epoxy. That's a way to get perfect outlines)

5. Wait, until it's hard.

6. Use Sanding paper with (!) a cork block to get away the epoxy. The cork block is important, because the inlay and the ebony react very different to sanding paper. With your hand you wouldn't create a flat surface.
I use 240, 600 and 1000 grit in the end.

Edit:
Material needed:
- epoxy
- sanding paper (240-1000 grit)
- cork block
- very thin needle
- scalpel
- sharpening stone (scratching hard wood isn't good for your needle/scalpel)
- magnifying glas (at least 5x I use one for watch makers)
- Old scale with a flat not damaged side (or anything comparable) I use it in the first step to press and polish the shield inlay into the scale
- Metal file (for creating some fine dust from your wood)

@Syph: Thx, I'm very proud of it. :)

It doesn't only look so, it even 'feels' perfect, touching it. When I look at your work you shurely know what I mean. ;)

Yes I know what you mean.  I would love to be able to sink a shield like that in a brass scale, but doing the same technique in brass doesnt seem to easy.

Thx. :)

@Syph. I would suggest a mixure of technique as shown above and one called "Tauschieren" in Germany. Have a look here:
http://www.entdecke-schmuck.eu/94464514nx1490/goldschmiedekurs-%BB-do-it-yourself-anleitungen-zum-selbermachen-f63/antike-tauschiertechnik-t2749.html

What's different to Tauschieren: The inlay is hard but the brass scale is soft.

I would suggust to peen and scratch the outline of the inlay into the brass scale. But at least 0,3 mm deeper than needed. After that:
Put the inlay into the scale with Epoxy. Until it gets hard you have some time.
Carefully punch the brass down so that it encloses the inlay perfectly. Even some wrapping around would be ok.
On the last step you sand again. This should work too.

Edit:
@Grumpy. The shield inlay of modern knife can be extracted very easy. Just remove the scale and look from behind. There is a hole. Take a Victorinox cork screw and carefully press it out. Maybe a small knife will help too. My EDC Spartan is the perfect tool for it. ;)

That's what I did, after finding the logo on the translucent sapphire scale popped out. Never had thought of pinning the entire outline first. Had cut into the wood but obviously not effectively enough. Tried to just cut the areas needed sunk-in but lost a bit of wood. Went ahead and carved out the entire area and epoxied the inlay inside.

Had used wood glue and the sawdust material. It clearly shows the repair, though dark grained wood might not show up as much. Wasn't wanting to mix sawdust with 6 minute epoxy. Will have to sand down with finer grit to polish the epoxied window more.

Also, when getting epoxy, look on the literature and make sure it is clear. Had went with a certain type of epoxy and found later it was a yellow tint.

Soon to be my first alox mod.  Bought this 84mm electrician.  Pivot hole is 2.5. Seems someone "made" an 84 and sold it to me.  No worries.  a little grinding and brass should fix this right up.

A modern Golfer with Backtool (a hook). Syph, I hate you for your 84mm Golfer tutorial. ;)

I'm not happy with the snap of the scissor, but it works so far. I also will be more careful, shortening the scissor.

Next time I get some better drill bits. I wasted a cheap diamond bit, drilling a 2,2mm hole into the scissors. :)

However, a funny but very tough mod. Without my custom 600-1000 grit sanding paper for my proxxon It wouldn't have been that nice.
