Hi all,

I'm the new guy, but hardly new to Swiss Army Knives. I thought I'd stop by and show off my latest SAK rescaling. The subject was my long time favorite outdoor SAK, the Victorinox Huntsman. I had done a Huntsman in white paper Micarta years ago, but always wished that I'd used green canvas Micarta. There's just something extremely cool about canvas Micarta. Wickedly tough stuff, and quite a challenge to work with. Well, I finally had some free time over the weekend, and made my dream come true. I did make the slot for the tweezers, but didn't bother with the toothpick, as I've never successfully used the toothpick. A fresh slice of green paracord adds the final touch.

A couple of old rescaling projects from years ago, done in white paper Micarta and red linen Micarta:

Welcome to the forum and can I say I really like the red linen.  The others are great too but the red is subtle enough that you just have to give it a second glance before you're sure it's a mod.  Things that make you look twice are good in my book.  :tu:

The wonderful scale mod done by buzzbait remembers me I modded some scales too.
Not so nicely, though.

I had found two SAKs with badly chipped scales, but with good blades.

I made two mods, one for my GF and one for my mum. My GF likes turquoise, so I used some polymeric clay in turquoise and glow-in-the-dark to make two FAT -she liked so- scales. I cooked them in low-temperature on the knife to give them shape, then alone in higher temp. Refinished, laquered, put on the logo shield, laquered again. Now this SAK is somewhere in my girlfriend's purse.

The white one is a nacre wannabe in the same polymeric clay, now in my mom's keychain.

I had the choice to make scales thinner; I'm not so happy about how tweezers and toothpick fit in them (drown in them, I should say), but the SAK had to be liked by my girlfriend, so the choice was hers.
I really like more the white one.

Here's another SAK rescaling that I'm finishing up, this time using orange G-10. I was working on it yesterday, hurrying to get it done before the wife got home, and totally botched it up. I made the cutout for the tweezers too big, and it looked totally stupid. So what was I to do? I got to thinking about how I found the standard SAK toothpick to be totally useless, and decided that this was good time to improve upon it. It initially tried to make a black linen micarta toothpick, but micarta didn't have the dimensional stability to pull off a toothpick. Then I tried a leftover piece of orange G-10, and it worked out great. In theory G-10 should make a great toothpick material. The G-10 toothpick is thinner, stronger, much stiffer, and pointier than the original toothpick. G-10 also happens to be almost immune to heat, cold and chemicals.

I still have to epoxy the scales, and do some minor fitting and buffing, but it's almost done. Here are some quick and dirty pics.

There's some great  and inspired ideas there chaps. It's good to see a few different materials and colours being used  :tu:

I just ordered some macassar ebony from Rotokid for my first attempt - any tips on working that type of wood without messing it up?! I know it's hard and that the dust is no bleedin good for you, other than that I've only ever really worked with softwood.
