for some reason that awl looks quite vicious in that installation. not the benign pokey thing it appears to be as a backtool on a 91mm.

Found a very old (1940's???) Vic all beaten and abused in the TSA resale bin. Decided to turn it into a functional vintage edc knife. As it's difficult to find exact period replacement parts for the corkscrew, large and small blades, and scissors, I went with what I had on hand: a Wenger corkscrew, and contemporary 91mm Vic scissors. As the scissor backspring was broken too, I swapped the spring for the saw to the scissors, reground the profile of the handle end of the spring, and made a custom brass spacer as the spring wasn't thick enough. The small blade I turned into a flat Phillips driver, similar to that on some Wengers. The Large blade reprofiled nicely, it's hard to really tell it's now about 1/4 inch shorter than originallly.
The scales were very difficult to remove without slightly damaging the rivet holes. I filled the damage with JB weld, and that it mostly hidden by the mushroom heads of the rivets.
A general tidy up, some tlc, other general tool renovation and cleaning, and finally a good polish. Possibly the most fiddly job was the final one: grinding/sanding down a modern Vic toothpick and tweezers to fit the skinny slots on the '40's knife.
I still have to secure one edge of the Vic shield, which is lifting slightly from the scale......any ideas about what adhesive to use, and how best to do it??

Super glue maybe. Never really tried to glue the shield done. A clear epoxy might work too.

Large blade is quite a bit thicker than a modern 91mm vic main blade. Also, all the pivots on the knife were 2.2mm, not 2.5mm. Openers are thicker too, and the can opener sits at q totally different angle when closed than the bottle opener. New scissors fit the knife OK, but the spring needs reworking, and the spacer I mentioned for thickness.

I am leaning towards epoxy, as Super Glue can have sometimes a nasty effect on some plastics.

True. I have used it on loose scales and it has been ok, not sure about the old scales.

With transparent epoxy you can make a great job using something to change it's color. Simple candle soot makes a great black epoxy, I used it with very good result to fix black vic scales. It's a matter of find different substances for different colors. Any idea for red?

Paprika? :D

What about taking a scale exactly like the one you are trying to epoxy-match, and creating a bunch of perfectly-colored powder by dremelling it to death  with a sanding cylinder?

Decided to join the forum after doing a search for modified SAKs.

This thread has so many great modifications and there's clearly many talented people on this forum!!

Picked up my first Alox a few weeks ago and have found the Cadet and Farmer to be very useful.
After seeing some of the mods over at EDCF, I decided to try a few of my own mods.

I started with a standard 58mm classic and added the blade from a Spyderco Honey Bee, a clip from a Zebralight SC52,  and a green tritium locator under the clip. Also made the brass scales and liner.

Looking forward to working on an 84 and 93mm that I stripped down and started brass scales and liners for next.

Anyway, heres a fews pics. Still have a lot of work to do to complete it, but it works.
Looking forward to seeing more mods from you talented and creative people!
