Thanks guys, appreciate it. Have to admit though, an alox yeoman is a bit of an easy win round here. I'll have to try a less well regarded model/combo next. ;)

A hybrid of the internals of a vintage Executive and the stainless steel scales of an even older Prince.

The other halves of both knives were trashed.

How did you remove the metal scale? I have Wenger in metal scale that I want to mode but have no idea how to take them out.

These were glued on and quite hard to get off, the Wenger metal scales are stuck on with double sided tape, or at least the ones I have removed were..
here is a link to some pic's of me removing Dynasty series scales. I assume the stainless Wenger scales are similar.

Is German silver better or worse than regular silver? Which one costs more?

German silver is a synonym for nickel silver. An alloy of copper, nickel and zinc.
Silver costs more.

Here comes the next one:

Eventually it'll be a polished stainless huntsman with philips.

For those of you who want aluminum scales compatible with 91mm Vics but don't have a full work shop, they are available here:

http://www.lowes.com/pd_503063-50034-51449L_0__?Ntt=51449L&UserSearch=51449L&productId=50086738&rpp=32

I had a proof of concept mod made (explorer) and they do indeed line up perfectly with Vic 91mm innards.

Cheers!

Is that one or both scales?
If one it looks like it will be heavy  :o
If two - I guess you slice it in half long ways ??

Love your work ! Looking forward to seeing the final item

Thanks! It's just the one scale - 3mm thick 420 stainless (I bought 304 but the markings on the plate say 1.4301 which is 420). It is a bit thick but  I don't think the corkscrew sits nicely with thinner scales. I won't be putting toothpick and tweezers on this one so I'll leave the outer liners out. The knife will weigh about 60 grams more than normal  - SAKWiki says the standard huntsman is 97g so it will be a fair chunk more.

Thanks, good to know you can get them elsewhere. I've got a machine shop quoting for CNC machined 91mm scales at the moment. Hopefully they won't be too expensive so I can make more Alox knives.

A bit more on the stainless huntsman.  Donor Swiss champ, fresh out of the box:

(don't worry, I've got plans for the rest of the bits ... black Trail Guide Plus coming soon)

First test fit of parts:

I've got the layers reversed (oops!) and no tools on the back, but this is basically what it'll look like.

Large blade/small blade with corkscrew
Saw with chisel
Scissors with hook
Cap lifter/philips with awl

The philips driver is too thick and needs to come down further into the knife when closed, but it'll work with some fettling.
