That's lovely, is it some kind of burl?  :)
Correct, we call  " Maka" in Thai and you can find this word "Afzelia xylocarpa" as science name.

I had all the parts and always wanted to make one, so I got out my supplies and got started, making a Scientist Mod:

Thanks :D It is way too lacking in features for me, I know, stone the heretic, but I'd take a Tinker or Sportsman over this thing haha. Some people have an inexplicable fatal attraction to that magnifier though  :pok:

Good looking job mate.  I have to say that I really like the Scientist, not for the magnifier but for the in-line Phillips driver.  It's a regular EDC of mine now.

I use the awl just a little too often to let it go for a magnifier :P I know the end-mounted phillips is better, but as with all SAK decisions theres always a trade off... *sigh*

Well I realised I hadn't done a mod for a while and so had a look through my parts box to see what I had ready to go.  This one was first done by Yud over on SOSAK and he called it the Waitress.  Cool little SAK IMO.

Nothing against it Gareth but my first thought was, Gareth needs some more spare parts ;)

Fortunately you have a parcel heading your way anyways, I'll see if I can pad it out a bit.

TBH it's just the 84mm stuff I'm out off, and I'm not sure there is much more I can do with that size.  Unless you have some spare 84mm scissors and saws lying about?  ;)

I'll look through my pile of spare ::) 84mm scissors shall I :P

Dug out an 84mm Tinker this morning that you can salvage the back phillips from if that's any use to you?

This is probably a FAQ but hey: can't parts from Wenger 84mm models be used on Vics?

Thanks but I won't.  Between the Tinker, Apprentice and the Electrician I've got coming I'm not sure there is much I could do with it that I don't have already.

I've never tried personally but I suspect not easily.  First major difference is that Wenger uses a 2.5mm pivot where the Vic are 2.2mm, so you would get some play.  Secondly you might find some trouble getting the tools to sit well on the Vic backsprings.
