Thanks Enginears!  It's a lot of work to try and do the modifications you want, but really rewarding when its all done and in your hands.  I'm glad I found this site.  It has given me a lot of ideas and inspiration as to what can be done.  I also made the toothpick into a small screwdriver and made a spot for a small pin.  Its weird how much fun I had doing small, time consuming changes to this tool.  Thank you to all the people who have posted tips and tricks over the years.

Someone else posted this idea here. I just went ahead and tried it. Works great!

To avoid the can opener slipping when you're using it, cut a small groove in the lower tip, so it fits the rim of the can.

I used just a triangular file to do it. Put two fingers on the sides of the lower tip, as guides, and gently run the edge of the file down the middle, to create the groove.

Keep doing this without applying much force, so as not to have the file slip. After a while, test it on a can to see if it's deep enough. Keep repeating until it works.

  :salute:

Hello, new here and trying to post. I am new to modding, this is one of my 2 layers. Small blade and saw on one layer and an integrated pocket clip. I am in the process of making some leather scales for it.   [ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

Hello ,
It's a cool mod for a 1st time it's great

Mechanically it is not perfect, the saw and mounted twisted, and must be accompanied manually so as not to hit the small blade.

I would have liked to make such a successful mod for my 1st time

Ok, now that’s slick! A FarmerX is only missing a nail file besides a Philips, compared to a perfect one for me, so by doing what you just did, I could even upgrade to one without even taking it apart,,  :tu:

I attached the file to the scale while the knife was apart, but with a little care you can probably do it without taking the knife apart. I used a 58mm nail file but any file of a similar size should work.

I fig while open (of course) drill and tap, then use like you said probably any file should work if done right, and then just fasten on, use some what is it thread hardener?

Sweet alox mod  :tu: :tu: :tu: Might consider rit dye for the magnifier. You could turn it red, just need a use a candy apple or bright red.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will look into it although I like the next time I feel like taking it apart.

That looks super nice! Something I haven't seen here  :like:
Only thing I would change would be countersunk screws, maybe.

Thanks!
It's a matter of taste, but I prefer button head screws on Alox scales, they look more like the original pins.

Ah, so it's a deliberate choice of design!
May I ask the obligatory question of where you got the pivots? :D

On this mod I am using a regular blade layer spring without any modifications. Makes for a pretty good snap on all three tools.

This is my 9th or 10th mod. Made some aluminum scales by hand. I thinned the can opener to match the small blade.  I keep getting small breaks around the edge of my peens, do I just need to slow down? Any tips?

I am getting inspired again.  I have parts just lost the interest when I mangled the bushings.

I sometimes have the same, but I don't know for sure what causes it. I suspect the quality of brass may be involved (for me it happens more often with the 2.2mm brass which is a greener tint than my other sizes).
Anyway, I don't have a definitive answer but slowing down can't hurt. Also, you might consider leaving less material before peening.

Are you going to get a sacrificial knife for more bushings or do you have another plan?

Now that you mention the quality of brass it made me remember that this particular rod is bronze.  I wonder if higher copper content could be a contributor.  I will try less material next time, I am always a bit fearful of not having enough.

NO plan as of yet.  With the plethora of SAKs at the fleamarket I'd likely get a sacrificial one.

Quick questions: Dragonfly blade without modification? Could you explain your process?

I love it!
