I think I'll call this 'The Assistant'.

It's not really a SAK, more a SAP (Swiss Army Pen)  ;)

I also EDC a 91mm, bladeless but with scissors, so I don't need the small scissors.  And if I wanted a blade I'd carry my Pioneer-X.

bdpf79, those look very nice. I could see myself carrying that Jr Mech. :hatsoff:

BePrepared, I love that SAP.  :tu: Seems like a very useful toolset for city life.

Not a mod is such - more of a reconfiguration - but I reckon this is pretty much the main functionality of a Swiss champ in 5 layers by the time I get plus scales on it!?

Got all the cool tools (other than the wood saw) and sneaked a thinned out awl onto the saw layer too. Works for me!  :salute:

A rebuild of a 1980s Swiss Champ. I had the original knife as a youngster and it was used and abused for years and then left in a tool box and forgotten until I rediscovered it and decided to take it apart for mod fodder. The bits found their way into several other models over the years but I recently decided none were quite as good as I remembered that original Champ….so I collected as many of the parts back together and rebuilt it as close to original as possible. Parts replaced are a new 2.4mm main blade and the brass scale studs from an old camper a couple of the liners and the scales. I think everything else including the round mini screwdriver is from the original. It’s a lovely thing, love the slimmer pliers, not so keen on the old style ( non stainless) file but the authenticity is more important in this one. Nothing feels quite like a Swiss Champ - an absolutely classic design…wish I’d done it sooner.

Great story and SC.

My latest mod is a Spydernox with, yes, Econo Scales.

New custom painted scales.  I could not fine 84MM Plus scale let along 84MM Plus scales in the right shade of blue.  So I made some.
That is awesome and the newly painted scales make it even better.

My first attempt at an 84mm build using 91mm scissors - the Golfer. Had some very old European stag horn that's was earmarked for the bin during a clean-out. Dates from around the 1930's shot by my grandfather somewhere in Austria. Glad I could repurpose them. I took some photos so will look at doing a separate thread on the build process.

That stag looks amazing and it will provide a great story and heirloom piece

Heres my latest prototype. I have been working on adding the phillips. Started with the double spring and can and bottle together but did not like the snap and other issues. So I decided to go at it using an older cap lifter and the phillips spring. Yes it is stubby now, but retains its function, and the 90 degree stop is more like 80. Since my previous attempt at leather scales has held up and I needed the cutouts for the awl and file, I decided to try again. Snap is great on everything, although the scissors are weaker than usual, which is kind of funny since it is the only unmodded layer. Getting the functionality but still working on the aesthetics.

 Trailmaster / Workchamp hybrid.
Liners removed, stainless steel pin bolts, ebony wood scales and scalpel welded on.

As Mr MadPlumbarian requested you apparently need pictures of mods, and after lurking around and even getting good replies I figured it was the least I can do...

Yeoman using latest generation tools and oiled micarta plus scales. Bought the scales off Etsy and added the inlaid nickel silver cross to complete the oldcross vibe. Turned out even better than I hoped. All tools even have a decent snap to them.

JR

I'm sure there'll be others down the line and I have some ideas for version 2, but that will require custom tools to be made which feels a bit much for the moment... This was a lot fun though!

The snapback on all tools is surprisingly good, but I peened them very carefully checking after each hammer blow once the bushings stopped rotating. The hook is a bit stiff and hard to open, but I can live with that. The nail file is on the outside anyway and I have a feeling that will be the most used part of it anyway...  ::)

Nice mods everyone. That is a heck of an executive pa! :gimme:

Heres a little scale tool mod I did last night on my climber. I am sure it has been done before but I have been meaning to try for a while. The scale file.

Got some black pen scales for my 58mm mod, from a well known Chinese site.    And also used some spare parts to make another bladeless SAK.
