I like it...the woodsaw make a lot more sense on a knife named the Explorer.

Actually, there WAS a Vic factory model made that was an "Explorer with a wood saw" mix.  It was called a "Woodsman" and it's quite scarce.

The Woodsman, along with a "Hoffritz Limited Edition" are two of the most difficult-to-find Vic SAKs with magnifiers (I collect Vic SAKs with magnifiers).

Limited Edition

Thank for the info Tim, the Woodsman is one I'd forgotten about and would like to give a go sometime.

Yes, but there isn't a factory equivalent to the knife Gareth just built is there? The Woodsman is a Huntsman with the m/p layer added.

Heh heh.  The Explorer is a Climber with the M/P layer added.  The Huntsman is a Climber with a woodsaw added.  The Woodsman is any one of the following.

Explorer + woodsaw layer
or
Huntsman + m/p layer
or
Climber + woodsaw layer + m/p layer

It's kind of like algebra.

Thanks all. :tu:

I was kinda sorry to see that one go, as I really rather liked it.  It might well have to be one for the future, this or the Woodsman.

I'm sure I've said it before here but I almost always think in terms of the Huntsman as the 'standard' SAK.  No basis for this in terms of product it's just how my head works. :)  So everything is a Huntsman with bits missing, added or changed. :D

All gone a bit quiet here so I'll add one.  Just finished this one for a chap on another forum, it's an Explorer Plus with a scissor/saw swap.  Does make for a nice SAK.

Now that is nice :tu:

Well after doing the Explorer mod last week, and having tcolling (Tim) remind me about the Woodsman, I thought I'd do one for myself.  This one really packs in all the features I like and still keeps a slim enough size to make for a great EDC.

I'm a happy chap. :)

NIce Gareth. Assembling 5 or more layers can get tricky sometimes.

You know, I hadn't even thought about it, this is the thickest mod I've done.  You're right though, it didn't just slide together. ::)
