I'm not usually a fan of serrated blades, but I got a deal on this one that was just too good to pass up.
- First impression is that this is one huge folder. Note how it dwarfs not only the Vic Climber, but the Spyderco Police as well. At 7.7 ounces, though, it is fairly light given its size.
- Finish leaves something to be desired. The sharpening job is very uneven, the blade just has an unfinished dull gray look, and the texturing on the handle scales is WAY too aggressive. Seriously, the scales feel like sandpaper, and this is probably my least favorite thing about this knife.
- The knife flips open easily and locks up like a bank vault, with no detectable blade play in any direction. The lock release has a stiff spring and must be almost fully depressed into the handle to release the lock, so I estimate the odds of accidentally disengaging the lock to be extremely low. Overall, the lock/lockup is my favorite feature of the knife.
- Due to the length of the handle, the pocket clip is not in the way when gripping the knife, although I think the texturing of the handle would make using the pocket clip rough on any pocket.
- The cut-outs in the handle are a nice touch and aid in establishing a solid grip. This is another reason why they could have toned down the handle texturing considerably.
- I have carried this knife a bit, though I haven't used it much. Perhaps the most significant obstacle to carrying it is making sure you have a pocket large enough to comfortably accomodate the 7 3/16" closed length.
Overall, for the $40 I paid, I'm pleased thus far.
