Bought a Wave how did I do?
on: June 28, 2014, 02:49:03 AM
So eBay sent me a coupon for $5 off a $20 purchase.  I immediately thought multitool.  Ended up with a gently used Wave for $42 plus $5 shipping.  Factor in the coupon and it was $42.  Did I do well?  Also picked up a black pocket clip for it off Amazon so it will look a little unique.  I'll post pictures when I get it, supposed to receive it on the 1st.

In the coupon message it said they were giving them to sellers.

You mention black pocket clip so is the Wave BO? Either way not bad at all especially if it is BO.

No just standard stainless.  I got the black pocket clip to contrast the stainless to make it a little unique.

Sounds good to me.

I got one of those coupons a few years ago, never understood why but I didn't complain. :D

I suppose that given the final price with coupon you did Ok, but you could have gotten a new one for about the same price. Assuming it's in great condition though I'd say job well done.

The Wave retail goes for about $90. I've noticed more and more online sellers, including eBay, starting to ask this higher amount (as are brick and mortar sellers). I suspect LM has recently gotten onto their sellers about saturating the market by blowing these things out for cheap.

I hope you'll enjoy your new tool. The Wave is one of my favorites and my most carried. Some people modify them with Rebar plier heads but I actually like the classic wave plier and hope they don't change it.

If you don't mind, give us an update when you get it as to the fit and finish and how you like it.

Got the wave.  Very impressed with it.  It is in excellent used shape.  The wood saw can opener and serrated blade do not look like they have been used.  The plain blade has been used but still very sharp and no scratches.  Opens and closes well and pliers are next to new looking.  I would guess the previous owner mostly used it for the screwdrivers as they are pretty scratched but useable and not damaged.  I got the black pocket clip and installed it as well.  I like how it's a deep clip where it does not show the multitool in my pocket when clipped.  Pictures to follow tonight after dinner sometime.

I think you did great, personally. I got a Wave off ebay sometime back, about $35, and it had some broken components, so it cost another $5 to ship it off to Leatherman for refurb. Now, I'm super happy with it.

A good condition Wave for $42 is worth every penny, IMO

Thanks for the replies.  I am really liking it and have used it around the house a few times already.  I was a knife guy before I got a wingman so I am really into the two blades on the tool instead of the one on the wingman.

Nice! I love the blades on the Wave especially the shape of the main blade.

Can't say that black clip looks right however but it's your wave  ;)

I JUST watched a video on youtube, TheModernSurvivalist, where he shows his normal EDC, and he had a non BO Charge with a BO clip. I found it really odd, after having just read this thread.

I think both look fine, personally.
