I've been wanting a Valor Studios " with the old breed " Ka-Bar since March 2011 and I finally got one at the beginning of this month. I love the engraving on it.

I almost bought one locally for 100 dollars. That was the first time I handled one. They do sure feel good in the hand. I can see why you would start collecting them.  :tu:

Lovely knives Dunc!  I've got a black-handled one here somewhere, gotta dig it out and get a pic up.  I also know that my grandmother has the one my grandfather carried in the Pacific.  It's mine one day, but believe me I'm really in no hurry to get it......

I will have some stuff like that one day from my father from his time in the military. I will appreciate it greatly one day, but it's the one thing I know I have coming that I hope I don't get anytime soon.

The key to dating it is playing it cool and just asking it to go out to dinner with you.  :P

They are very well made. Had one that I intended to use, but the upper guard + short handle put the pommel right at base of palm in saber grip, so I had to get rid of it. Probably should've kept it.  :-\

I got my USMC KA-BAR from the MCRD San Diego PX in 1980 (I had a friend in the Corps at the time, and had nothing but good things to say about this knife, which is how and why I got this - my first large fixed blade knife).  My knife came with a gray park. finish, and a brown leather sheath with staples.  The USMC KA-BARs that are being made today cost much more, and the fit/finish/materials seem to be cheaper, which is sad.  The sheaths (no longer made in the US - don't know about the knife) now come with rivets, which I believe to be an improvement (even though my "old" sheath has held up just fine).  If I had to go into combat, this would be one of the knives going with me.

The sheaths are made in Mexico but the knives are still made in Olean New York. I don't have any problems with fit and finish and I'm sure you'll agree from the attached photo it looks pretty good.

I know some people aren't fond of the blade finish but it is extremely hard wearing and protects the 1095 Cro-Van from rust.
