Can you paint your tool?

Maybe I'm again posting a question that already exists somewhere, but I tried a few searches and nothing. If there's another topic, let's delete this one...

So, as I've been after an orange Juice unsuccessfully, I was wondering, if eventually, I couldn't paint one tool orange myself    Maybe not even the Juice, maybe the stainless Wingman... say with car-paint and a tiny painter's brush...    I watched a YT video where the guy shows the paint chipping off later, which is kinda understandable.. but if I paint only the handles, not the tools that move around..

I wonder if sandpapering it would work give more surface area to grab onto.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm..... sounds right....

I just jumped at that as ... something that I could actually afford to buy and do without much effort and knowledge.. lol.



Sandpapering.... but if I don't manage anything, I'll just ruin my tool...

Generally, painting stainless steel presents a problem because the surface is almost completely smooth. Painting on stainless steel requires preparation to ensure that the metal is capable of holding a layer of paint in place.
As a general rule, you never want to apply paint directly onto the smooth surface of polished stainless steel, as it will never bond with the surface.
you will need to sand or scuff the surface of the metal so that the paint actually has something to bond to.
You also have to coat stainless steel with a layer of primer before you can apply the final coat of paint.
Primer coats have special bonding agents that help them keep paint on the surface.
Also, a spray would give a better finish than a brush.

The only thing I've seen successfully take on a multitool is Cerakote, which unfortunately is thick and will throw off the fit of your tool. At least in my experience.

I have a friend that's a gunsmith and does cerakote and water image transferring.

It can be done. My roommate Kryloned his Freestyle. He sanded it until it was a rough brush finish, then did four feather light coats, the first being dark grey then the rest foliage green. He's had to touch it up once in two years. He has done the same thing for a lot of his other tools, but bright orange so he can find them if he drops them.
