Open letter to the membership.
on: June 29, 2014, 10:43:37 PM
Mods, if I posted this in the wrong place please move it wherever it needs to go. I was just trying to reach the largest audience possible.
To the membership of MTO, everyone. Please allow me the opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to each of you for making this site what it is today. I further hope this correspondence accurately depicts the amount of pride I take in being a part of this elite forum.  Over the few short years I've been here I've had the opportunity to interact with some truly amazing persons, men and women alike. I don't belong to any other forums and that is for the following reasons. Here at MTO there are no petty/stressful arguments regarding politics, religion or any other controversial topics. Just decent men and women who share a common interest in all things related to multi tools.
I have been fortunate enough to be the beneficiary of many of your acts of trust and kindness. I've conducted business here with several members who simply sent the item or items I was looking for and said ' if you like it, we'll settle up later '. How great would it be if the rest of the world we live in could be trusted to operate that way. This list includes all of you but EDCGEAR, BMOT, JAFROMMN, SAZABI, MULTI-MAT, GRANT, JD, ASHLEY, LYNNLEFEY, KAMPHER, TRAVIS, ENCI-K, GARETH, GRAUTE, CPTSPAULDING, SAWMAN, NELSON, ZED, DUCTAPETECH, ALOHA, SPARKY, LOWTECH and so many others. My apologies to those I left out, and I know that is many.
I simply wanted to express what an honor it is to be here and associate with each and every one of you. While I had nothing whatsoever to do with this site's inception I certainly appreciate all of the hard work that goes into making it run and all of the individual acts of kindness that make it the place it is today. Each of us has only a finite amount of time on this earth and I know for certain that my time here was made better by virtue of the fact that I was allowed to be a part of this family. I didn't mean to filibuster here, I just wanted to say thanks again to everyone for all that you do and I hope these words cause you to take a step back and look at what you've done here. It really is amazing, especially when compared to most of the trash that is out there today. A family rather than a random group, if you will. Thanks for your time and my very best to each of you and yours.
Most Sincerely,
Stew... to all.

Very well said.  I feel the same way.  We're all a big online community/family, and I don't see this anywhere else.  Glad you're here as well, although you likely have been here longer than I.  I just have absolutely no life (according to this place)

I know how you feel,  trying to explain to other people how great this place is can be challenging, because they doubt you.

it is hard to articulate properly the feeling you have once you hang around here for a while.  Family is a good start, or maybe Utopia.

I feel the same way as all of you. I really do love this place. I find when I frequent other forums all the threads end up turning into people attacking others and huge arguments. It really puts things into perspective and makes me appreciate what we have here.  :tu:

Agreed. I frequented forums in the early 2000's but interest fizzled and I only lurked various sites when doing research. I would register to some to ask a random question. I got into gear as a whole about a year ago.

I have more posts in a few months here than the last few years at various boards combined. I don't offer much in the way of content but everyone is a friendly bunch and no one seems to mind.  :)

Yes we do.  Love it here :D  I know my wife finds it odd that I am so trusting of people here, but that trust is reciprocated as well.  Many people just can't believe such things are possible over the internet.  I can see how they can think that based on every other forum I've visited.  Bickering and arguing and profanity all around.  It seems like most people just like to get onto forums to start fights.  There's none of that here :salute:

It has been said in many ways and from others around the world that MTo is quite literally the best dang place on the interwebs and I agree wholeheartedly.  Where else can one go and have conversations with others from probably every walk of life and yet each hold themselves to standards not heard of before?

The tools brought us here and its the tools that unite us but the "glue" is this...........this............community we happened upon where we are part of something more than the steel.  I really cannot describe what we have here or how it all works but maybe, just maybe its better that way.

Stew it's a pleasure to have you aboard and your contributions make MTo as great as you describe so Thank You  :salute:

I have got to say, this thread has made my day.

I had a pretty rough night and am pretty exhausted with a full day ahead of me, but despite all of that I'm pretty puffed up after reading this thread.  It always amazes me what we've managed to build here.

A forum is like a living thing, and all the members shape how it develops.  I'm proud to see so many people getting involved in it, everyone leaving their fingerprints on it I'm some fashion.

My day is going to be much brighter after reading this..... :D

Anyone else think it's interesting that the discussion forum for the carriage and use of pocket knives is the most civil, friendly and accepting place on the internet?  Sure blows the whole "Carrying a knife means you're a violent criminal" hypothesis out of the water.

Very well put, Scattergun. I was just thinking the same thing on Saturday. I frequent other forums (motocross, firearms, hunting related) and it seems like you cannot post anything without someone being rude and/or downright insulting towards your views or the conversation turning into a political or religious debate. I can only think of a few rare occasions when anything resembling an argument has broken out here, and when it did a moderator comes along and resolves the issue. Not to mention how helpful and supportive everyone is here (for good or bad, LOL).

MTO is definitely a great community made up of respectful people from all over the world.

Great post Stew.  It really is amazing how the members here interact with each other.  I've belonged to other forums briefly, never sticking around long because of how established members treat newbies, etc.  This is my home on the interwebs, and I'm proud to be a small part of it. :salute:
