New Logo

Is it just me, or is there a new logo?
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Is the new logo going to be there forever?

not forever, until I'm told to revert it.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

The tradition is taken from Law Enforcement and military in which bands are worn over shields and other insignia as a sign of respect for the fallen.  Tradition states that it be worn until after they are laid to rest.  We will revert to the normal logo then.

I do like the human touch this forum has. Especially thanks to Def and the Mod team.
Sad that the reason is no happy one.

I wish we had a better reason for doing it too.

It amazes me that for all he did here Travis never made it to the No Life Club.  Heck, give me two days and my past count will jump by a thousand or so posts,  but his were almost always meaningful and well thought out.  That makes him a true rarity around here.

We are working on a way to honor him (and some of our other fallen) but we haven't come up with much yet. If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to send me a PM.

I only had a couple of dealings with Travis (some charter memberships and MTO store purchases). He was a real gent to deal with and I got the impression he was the quiet, unassuming person. Someone who did a great deal behind the scenes, but had no need to tell the world about it.  :salute:

Travis was a true gentleman, and whilst I never achieved the camaraderie with him that I have with others on here, I was genuinely moved by his passing. I dealt with him a few times via PM and he was a lovely man to talk to and deal with. I will support any way of honouring those who helped this family become what it is. I'd like to add John (HC) to that too, as he was another I had few dealings with but whose passing left a void in the world.

I wish I could offer something fitting to acknowledge them Grant, but I too am failing right now. Maybe a "membership" status that honours them as "heroes" of MTO for anyone who views one of their prior posts.

As an aside, is there an honarary fund set up for Travis, either for his family or for any charity that he may have championed? I (and maybe other members too) would like to give something to say thanks for his contribution to our family. Others have said we're here if needed (which of course we are), but I've not seen anything that puts those words into action. Maybe we as a community could give something back as an appreciation for his contribution here. I feel I want to do something to say "thank you Travis", but don't really have an outlet to do that.

At this point I don't have any suggestions.  I wish it were that easy.  I will try to talk to Cynthia this week and see if they need anything at the moment.  Her and Ian are of course the highest priority, but I'd rather not intrude just yet.

though it may not be much, even a SAK with a message engraved on the blade, for his son (held by the mother until she is ready for him to have it)

I am not the type to come up with a good message, but I think this would be a small token that the mother would appreciate, and the son would cherish when he is older.

or (and this just hit me)

a MT (say PST) and a SAK, framed with a plaque that tells of the impact Travis had here.  kind of like a Military shadow box
If I can help, let me know

I thought about this a few days ago, but what about us having a thread, or section here dedicated to those that we have lost.  It could have pictures and stories about them, and it would be their own special little corner of MT.O.  It could be a place where we could go to remember them, and cherish their memories.

I'm sure this has been thought of before, and I really don't have any good ideas in regards to getting it setup, or if it is even a good idea.
