Found a NIB Mini Tool
on: July 18, 2014, 07:02:38 PM
At a local western event i found a nib leatheman mini-tool, all complete and totally unused. He had some more nib old lm tools, like pst and a sideclip.

Just bought the mini-tool, couldn't resist. (altough it was 45 euro, which is about 60$) ( i see them on ebay to go as high as 200$ ? )

It has no leatheman marking on the scales, but the plier does have the leatheman usa marking on it.

Sadly no date, it says TSS 300A on the box side, and the made in the usa (c) 1986 leatherman tool group inc. Portland, or.

I'm no collector, have a few leathermans that see good use (wave, fuse and style ps) but cloudn't resist this ... It might be the start of a collection though..

That's a awesome find!!!  It's also a great price for a "clean skin" mini tool.  Thanks for sharing.

A couple of years ago I saw one of these (also new in box) in the back of a display at the local store, but did not bother buying it, so I feel like I deserve one of these  :twak:.

Anyway, great find, and congrats on doing the smart thing by taking it home with you  ;).

Great find and an excellent price.  That's the very first version of the LM Mini, often called a "cleanskin" or "sterile" because it has no stampings on the handles.  These are in demand by collectors, and being unused, having the the box and all the doco and sheath makes it all the better. :salute:

Now you can look for one with "US PAT PEND" (the second version), "US PAT 4744272" (the third version with "Leatherman USA" on the pliers, and the fourth version with "Leatherman Tool" on the pliers), then there is the BO version, the "USA ground out of pliers" version (if it exists ? ) and even the mythical Japan version with just "Leatherman" on the pliers, and .....

Here is a good thread about Minis. The clear skin one is missing in the OP but gets some show time later on.

Nice score. I saw one at a flea market and thought it was a knock-off. I might have to go and try to find it again. tom.  8)

If it has "Leatherman, USA" cast around the plier pivot and stamped on the knife tang it is most likely genuine.
