....... And Let Fate decide!
on: July 23, 2014, 03:19:18 AM
after noticing That I grab the same Tool.

and noticing that I have a lot of tools that I do not carry,

I wonder if I could set up a random Number generator (or a multi-sided Dice) for picking my MT
AND
another one for my SAK.

would I have the strength to follow through with what the fates decide?
If I can help, let me know

maybe this weekend I can devise a system and try it out.

I am sure I will out a "free choice" to each though!

I think a "free choice" option would be good as well.  I think Terry (stealth) did something like this a while back, but I don't know that he stuck with it

Just package up your 5-6 favorites, the ones you usually use, and mail them to your parents and ask them to keep them for a few weeks and mail them back to you.

Have you seen the Big Bang episode where Sheldon uses dice to make all his decisions ?  It didn't go all that well for him

about 25 MTs and 60 SAKs,  (though 15 SAKs are classics)

Lets say you try it for a week. You list fourteen of each. I'll randomize the list.
Others can choose from two sets of numbers. I'll post what you have to carry.

I like it,  but I think I will do that later as a different challenge.

Your idea puts the power in the hands of others, instead of chance.  I have a few ideas up my sleeve,  I am pretty good with the Texas Instruments Ti 89 Titanium, I might record the screen as the calculator makes the random selection.

Or I might do it via a spreadsheet, post links to the outcome.  I might even do a month's worth at a time

The spreadsheet gives me the ability to incorporate ranges for special days (Wenger Wednesday, and Throwback Thursday)

I also plan on adding an optional dedicated knife to the list, then if I decide to carry a knife, I have to carry the one that is chosen for me.

I couldn't choose randomly. I need to carry and use what suits me for a particular day. It wouldn't feel right to be carrying the wrong tool.  ::)

I couldn't choose randomly. I need to carry and use what suits me for a particular day. It wouldn't feel right to be carrying the wrong tool.  ::)

There is a Surge, and a Cybertool Lite in MOLLE Sheaths attached to the bag I carry every day.
I pilot a desk, so I am usually within reach of the bag if the Zombies show up.

If I have to go somewhere else for work, then in my car is a Super-Tinker, and a Blast.

worst case scenario, I have to hang my head in shame because I had to go to the bag or car.     but I will report it as such.  I have the random number generator solved.  easy in Linux!
Code: [Select]
shuf -i 1-35 -n 1

this will pick a random number between 1 and 35  (35 as an example, I can make it anything)

I will make a chart, and print it, and I will make a script that will simple pick 4 random numbers.

#1  will indicate which MT to carry
#2  will indicate which SAK to carry
#3  will indicate which dedicated knife I am allowed (but not required) to carry  (I plan on doubling the range, and all of the larger numbers than my chart means "No dedicated knife)
#4  will indicate which G-Shock to wear.

I plan on setting this all up this weekend, and starting it on Monday if possible.

If I can help, let me know

I vote for removing all backups from the bag and only using car tools to fix car problems.

I would be happy to ignore bag tools completely (except for true emergencies), but it would be hard for me to know they are not there.  I have never needed them, but I know I am prepared.

I would agree to the stipulation of "if you need another tool, get it from the car"

feels odd to quote your own thread,

How about I remove the tools from the car, and put the bag tools in the car while this takes place.

then I have no bag tools, but I do have car tools, that are more to my liking.

You bring up two good points. Emergencies and the peace of mind a backup gives.
When was the last time you used your tools to deal with a true emergency?
How hard would it really be knowing you don't have a backup?

I know I over prepare,  but I know the first day I leave them behind, I would need them.

I know I could easily tacle anything that comes up with whatever I have.  I have creative solutions all the time at work, to the point co-workers request info from DRS  (Detron's Redneck Solutions)

PS.

I also consider sudden amazing photo ops emergencies.  might need extra tools for more pictures  :ahhh    just kidding.  sort of.

If you use any of the tools mentioned for work then they can stay in play. Otherwise all bag and car tools get removed.

Do that and I will match you for the month...

it would be like saying,  no modded tools for zoidberg

...by removing all my modded tools including the ones I use for work.
Which leaves me with one, a Spirit. I'll even let you choose a folder to go with it.

Tell you what.

if I can manage to not carry any bag or car tools for one month, then you have a choice:

you do as stated above and use no modded tools

                             or

you record and upload yourself singing "Everything is Awesome"  and post the link in this thread

Yes it is.  I'd be willing to do a week completely at random, MT and SAK.  The only problem would be that I'm not entirely sure exactly what I have.  I think it's time to do another inventory.....

I realize that I do not need an entry for each item I have multiples of, I can choose as needed.

if PST is picked,  I can choose which one.  there is no good reason to list each one I have.

unless you are looking at it statistically.

What is your thought on that?
