MUT bronze scraper in a PST?
on: August 06, 2014, 04:33:31 PM
Simple question.

Without significant changes, will the MUT's bronze scraper fit in a PST?

I carry a PST II in my range bag, and after some consideration, I think a tool for range use might benefit from the bronze scraper.

Like a few other mods I've considered, I doubt this will go beyond the wondering stage, but I keep having the notion pop up in my head.

For what should that scraper be used/needed for?

In my whole service time i never needed a scraper on my guns.
Have fun.

It is specifically designed for the AR-15 platform. The back of the bolt carrier is especially hard to clean the build up of carbon deposit. The scraper is designed for this as well as removing carbon build up on the rest of the bolt.

More generally, it's good for getting into hard-to-reach portions of any firearm, for cleaning. And, since it's bronze, it won't scrape up steel parts.

Hmm, at no weapon i know i can imagine to get into hard to reach areas with such a small stick on a MT better than with a loose helper. Maybe on the parts of a dissembled bolt, but not in the receiver.

But of course i don´t know each gun, and if you like it and find it usefull, i´m not gonna to argue on that.  :)
Have fun.

Michael

Kinda think of it as a screwdriver on a multi and a regular screwdriver. The multi works good, but the reg. one will work better and easier. In this case, one is used for the range, a gun cleaning kit for when you get back home.
Just my .02 cents anyways.

I happen to think it would be a nice mod if it will fit. At first glance though, it appears to be a little big for the PST unless it goes in place of the file.

That would be the intent. I don't see needing a file at the range.

Hi Lynn,

I had a quick look at the 2 tools, this is what I found. Keep in mind these "measurements" are by eye only, no vernier involved  ;)

The scraper is as thick as 2 files, that should not be a problem, you may have to remove 2 tools to get it in. The problem is that the scraper is bigger around the outer pivot area. I don't have the torx to dismantle my MUT, but just lining an old PST handle over the scraper, I can see that the scraper will need some filing around the outside to fit inside the handle. I hope it makes some sense.

This is speculation only, maybe a Original Supertool may fit it inside. Another option may be to get an old Flair and use the "open" area where the cork screw was, but this I have not checked. I cannot find my Flair at the moment.

Cheers,

Pete
