The Zippo Owners Club
on: July 31, 2014, 09:04:10 PM
I once had about 20 zippos..mostly basic models, nothing fancy. Now i'm down to 5 that i can find.

Still have my first one though, bought it when i went to Johnson Space Center here in Houston Texas back in the early 80s. I must have burned up half of east Texas with it while in scouts. All the cool scouts carried zippos..and mostly got confiscated by the scoutmaster.

Think I might start collecting again. Just certain ones that appeal to me. Need a good way of display/storing them as to not scratch them. I have 2 users for fireworks and bbq lighting...the plain brushed and the wolf. I bet Napoleon Dynamite carries a wolf zippo.

anyway..show em if you got them.

something funny i learned last week...supposedly a white lighter is bad luck as Bob Marley , Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin all kicked while having one in their possession.

I gave all mine away when i´ve quit smoking 20 years ago.

Other than the usual BICs in and around the house, i only have a original and still unused IMCO 6700.
Have fun.

Bye,
Michael

Looks like I gotta get a group picture of mine tomorrow. Think I'm down to 5 or 6 at the moment.
Unfortunately, when you stop smoking, it gets a bit harder to remember EDC'ing a Zippo. I used to always have a Zippo on me, no matter where I was. Now, I actually have to ask my girlfriend, whenever I need a lighter.

As promised, a group picture, standing in the order in which I got them, from left to right.

The first one, I got from a school-mate about 8 or 9 years ago. I think it's a genuine Zippo, but not 100% sure. The lid has snapped off, so the pin has been replaced with a paperclip.

Number 2, is actually the third Zippo I got. The second Zippo was the exactly same model, but I lost it on a bus.

Number 3, is also from a school-mate. He got it during a 140-year anniversary of a brewery. I never got around to paying him for it...

Number 4, was one I gave to my dad as a Christmas present. When he passed away, I "inherited" it and it now sits on the shelf, being only used for special occasions.

Number 5, is a bit of an oddball. I found at the parking lot of my girlfriends school home. There' no telling how long it had been there, but it was pretty scratched up, but in perfect condition, besides that. It's become my "Project Zippo", as I'm still trying to find a nice color for it. It's been sanded down and spraypainted a few times by now and is the only Zippo is use for practicing tricks.

Common to all of them: No matter how bad they get messed up, if they start loosing their hinge-lids, looses the cam spring, flint-wheel flies off... No matter what, I'll problably never send any of them in for repairs, as they all have a special story to them. I don't wanna risk that they'll send me a new one and keep the old case; if that happened, I might as well just take my girlfriend for a ride and buy a new one from the store, which will then start getting its own story.

I have 2 Zippo's, but only use one, with a jet flame insert. Keeps me from smelling like Zippo fluid.

I think I have two or three of them, even made a sheath/holster for one, but I don't have any use for them anymore, I used to use one for lighting a torch for plumbing, worked great and safe since it's not under pressure, and also used to light my cigars, but I quit that, so there floating around here somewhere.. I guess this is the time to throw this out there... If any of you have old Zippo's lying around, that just collect dust in a drawer, I'll be happy to take them off your hands.

I newer owned a Zippo when i smoked. I owned a Ronson butane lighter that i loved. I carried it all the time, everywhere. I carried it long after i stopped smoking. That is probably why my wife threw it to washing machine without checking my jeans fift pocket. But hey, it still works. Only its covers got slight damage to it. I'd love to find same lighter new one of these days...

How do you like it so far? I've been thinking about one of those inserts for some time but never pulled the trigger.

I am still on my first gas bottle after slightly over a year. Daily use. Works like new. The insert seems more reliable then the torch lighter I had before.

I have two older Zippo lighters and a black Zippo leather case with belt clip (not shown).

I carried the Kennecott lighter in my jeans pocket in the early 1970s, but didn't enjoy the leg rash from lighter fluid vapors.   Kennecott is a copper mining company.

Bought my Zippo in Vancouver in about March or April 1995.  I gave up smoking about 3 years after that but still have the Zippo.
Doesn't get much use these days as I so infrequently use a lighter that a Zippo would have gone dry between uses.

And I'm another one who doesn't miss the surprise feeling after pocketing an overfilled Zippo

Edc a Zippo slim from 1991 I bought second hand, actually it is older than me.
Just love the style, but also is an excellent bug out tool, you can fill it with almost everything that ignites and can use flints from disposable lighter.
I hear allot of comments of people switching to bic lighters.
I have the feeling the world keeps getting lazier, it looks like people do not have the time to fill there Zippo, it takes approx 30 seconds every week.

Disposable lighter, disposable dishes, knives, wife's, cars, cellphones. Where are we going with this world.
A century ago nothing was disposed, everything was reused repaired refilled.
Think of all the pollution we would save if we reused or refill our products.

I have a few ZipLights and several Zippo Fixxits (but no actual lighters, I just don't seem to need to burn stuff very often).  Sorry, no photos.

Soon to get a jet flame insert. From what I understand this could be the start of a slippery slope !!
