well damn, that is nice.

got a question for those that have brass Zippos. since brass can get that green oxidation on it, did you ever have any issues with it staining you, your clothes or gear? I know a lot of copper mixtures tend to leave those green marks on the skin (cheap street jewellery) but how is it with brass specifically?

I know this is an older post and question, but I thought I would add my own zippos, as well to corroborate the others answers.

The bottom right zippo is all brass to include the innards and has not been polished since about 1989-90 (??) time frame. No green, no mess, no marks left on clothes or skin.

being a non-smoker and a hiker, I had issues with starting fires.

Yeah I know, two sticks, but honestly, working up a sweat to start a fire, no thanks.

For a wile I carried a flint rod, but I broke it
then I tried the old bic, but it actually fell apart one day.
I used something called a fire pump, was OK but not 100% successful in a hurry.

Then I bought an old Zippo.
Still have it 10 years later.
I have to refill it every time i want to take it anywhere, but that's no different from my old fountain pens I like to use.
I fill them every day to both flush them and top up the ink.

I have replaced the flints several times, they wear out, and the wick once (due again I think)
But for guaranteed lighting no matter what the weather, it is the most reliable thing I have.

I can see is one on Ebay now. I really want one.

Not knowing how prices go on Zippos (I have several myself but know the prices of some are way higher than others) but if it is a price you feel comfortable paying then get the lighter :salute:

Also a big welcome to :MTO:

New here, was wondering if anyone recognizes this logo on an old Zippo I acquired? Thanks Steve

Looks like the smaller style Zippo(used to be called the lady zippo), so maybe feminine related? Seeing as it has the little jewel pieces. :dunno:
What is the date on the base?
If it is a certain vintage, it'll have a date mark system, and just search google for Zippo date charts. That should narrow it down a bit. :tu:

Polished the Sterling and Brass Zippos this evening. They were in dire need of it. :ahhh
Threw in a little brass knife too that goes nicely with the brass Zippo. :)

My Zippo collection is mostly Navy themed.

Here are the ones from a few of the ships I was stationed on

Here are my other Zippos.

Since discovering the butane inserts for Zippos, I almost always have one in my pocket.

Thought the non-zippo on the right might be interesting here. There are a couple of nice antique/consignment stores near me, and I picked this one up for the fine mechanicals. No markings on it other than "silver"over"mexico" on the snuffer arm. I can't tell if it ever had an outer sleeve/lid or not.
The zippos are my previous and current edc.

For those who do not know Zippo finally came out with their own butane torch insert and on 31Oct will be releasing a plasma arc insert.  These will fit into any standard Zippo in place of the normal  insides.

I mention this because I have collected Zippos for several years but never carried them, until discovering the Thunderbird butane insert.  The inserts allow me to carry my favorite Zippo lighter without having to worry about the liquid fuel leaking or evaporating (I’m not a smoker so don’t use often, but like to carry a lighter for just in case).  The Zippo inserts are even better built than the Thunderbird ones being all metal instead of mostly plastic.  The plasma one will allow micro usb recharging instead of needing fuel.

For those that might still want a Zippo style flame, but in butane, Thunderbird does have a yellow flame insert.

Off/on-topic- I checked in for a look-see because I haven't rec'd notifications and see that there's been 'activity'. The button at the bottom says 'unnotify', so I'm having a go-figure. And now I have to leave for work! Now I know...

The antique's for 'sale', if you know anyone. It's an odd piece for me. Nothing hardball, there's probably a better home for it out there. It's an odd piece for me. There is a spring inside the flint tube.
