Falling in love with Skeletool X
« on: August 03, 2014, 09:24:37 PM »
I had a Skeletool X (Standard Skeletool with 154CM blade) for months, never pay much attention it because I was pursuing the
Mini-Surge. I thought more tools = better.
Now with all the recent activates here on MTO regarding the Skeletool, made me bring mine back out to give it a try.

WOW, I fell in love with it and rethink the whole concept, it might just about right for me as urban EDC.
Skeletool have just the basic tools and nothing more.

Also I have the habit of babying my stuff, so I never wanted to hard use my Mini-Surge and Benchamdes as they are hard to replace / expensive. Skeletool on the other hand fills both their roles and it is easy to replace and inexpensive.

It has its shortcomings, so it will be accompany with Mica to gain mini screw driver and scissors.

If I even need more tools, another MT with fully loaded features is never far away. (I hope)

I like the Skeletool very much but am a little concerned about the thinness of the pliers and the small wire cutters. It's a great tool though. I like yours with 154cm blade :D

I think (hope) it would be fine as I am only a light user on MTs.

Thanks!
Anyone noticed I "added" more holes on its pliers?

Those holes look really well done! Great job. I have considered a skeletool for my urban edc for a long time now, if I got one with the 154cm blade, it may suffice

The Skeletool may actually wind up being my new EDC due to its size and easy fit in the pocket.

I think you should give a skeletool c some pocket time Steve. I have a feeling that you will like it.

I resisted getting one for a long time after really not liking the freestyle... but I relented about a month ago and got a base model Skeletool for $36~ I think it was.

Fantastic. Small pliers, but strong enough to hold onto a bolt while tightening the other side with a spanner. Awesome knife (even the 420HC one, and on a little tool like this the combo knife is my preference) that is thick with a solid base and solid lock up. The screwdriver and bit storage setup is just awesome (and it actually LOCKS the bits in place instead of kind of holding onto them).

I'm stoked with mine.

I have had many Skeletools from the original PE version to many SE versions, and the CX. I currently do not have any Skeletools. I always go back and forth on them. Its a love hate thing for me. The one thing that always ruins it for me is that due to the design I am forced to only use the driver with one handle extended making it very awkward for me. I can see maybe getting another Skeletool in the future if I can find one for the right price though.

Dang, Now I wan't another Skele.

I'm still undecided. I haven't gotten the new shorts I ordered yet and when I do, I'll have a better idea of what I want to do.

I gained some weight recently, and I'm trying to lose it.  I had to loosen my belt one notch to be comfortable, and now I am in that weird spot between belt notches.  Not tight enough to stay up well, but the next notch is just a tad too tight.  So when I have my rebar on my hip and my juice in my pocket, the left side of my pants falls down!!

I think the Skeletool is fairly nifty in that (if you buy a phillips+flat bit like what comes with the wave/charge) you can use it as a plier/knife/phillips/flat/robertson MT, which is a decently handy set of tools for use in Canada in a pretty small package. And I like how beefy the knife is.

Still, not really the tool for me. The skeletool is on my 'use this as a gift' list ;).

Carry a bit set from the MUT.  It extends thru the handle and you can use the Skeletool closed.

The Skeletool CX was my go-to tool for a long time. In fact, it was the tool that infected me with edcgearitus.

About the pliers. I did break the pliers of my original Skele when they still had the issue with weak pliers. I was using it harder than it should have been used... After it was replaced with the updated model, I used it for a long time without issue.

Well I have not personally used this "Skeletool X leatherman" but if have read it somewhere that they serve good services specially when you are out for hunting or camping purposes or may be other odd jobs (better than folding blades). I am sure it is a durable tool and a lightweight tool. The most additional useful thing I found was the belt loop clip.

I guess it depends on what you EDC a MT for,
If you want one to take care of your daily light duties, a Skeletool most likely would fit the bill well.
But if you EDC a MT to be prepare in a unforeseeable situation, you might look for a MT with bigger tool load out.

Dang, Now I wan't another Skele.

Right there with you, must resist. I know in practice, I won't care for it. That doesn't mean it's not a cool gadget though.

Doesn't help that my friend I gifted my Skele to sends me pictures of projects he completes with it in what he calls "The Skeletool Saga".

I was happy to gift it to him though, he mocked me for multi's for some time. Now he doesn't know how he lived without it.  :D

It might not be what bushcrafters think of, but that's one awfully pretty trio of tools. Only thing not covered is scissors. Oh, wait, a Classic or Rambler!
