Hi all. I have been following this thread since the start of my MTO membership and have learnt alot about alox. The following are just observations of mine on prices of alox knives over the past 2 years. I hope I do not offend any alox collectors here. I myself have amassed hundreds of alox knives (soldiers, classics, cadets, pioneers, farmers) over the past 2 years, mostly for my own personal enjoyment, with a small fraction of them being extras for trading.  Anyway, here's what I observed:

1) there is a large number of bnib, alox pioneers and farmers of various exotic colours on ebay, that started off priced at 100-200% profit but have since depreciated to a more realistic profit of ~50%

2) With the blue, orange and green alox now being almost as common and cheap as the red and black alox, more and more SAK fans are actually using them now, something which had been considered SAKrilegious only a year ago

3) numbered series alox which used to command sky high prices, are starting to appear on ebay more and more often but with few takers at the end of the auctions.

4) alox runs at +B are taking a longer time to be sold out and you can even still find alox knives from the previous 3-4 runs

5) in the past, the 2010 alox damascus pioneer, which is arguably one of the most highly sought-after alox, could easily command up to a price of $1500 (transacted), and has in turn inspired some collectors to price theirs at $2000-4999. But I managed to get one at $600 last month and another one was just sold on ebay hours ago at $790.

Based on all these signs, I'm finally gonna ask my question, one which might sound like metal scratching on glass to some of you here.

Is the Alox craze finally dying out?  ie. Is it really "Alox Forever"?

I too have observed some of what you have mentioned in your post, and I think one of the possible cause is there are only limited amount of high bidders on market to lift up the price, and as soon as they start phrasing out, prices will have to come down to more realistic level which everyone is more comfortable to pay.

Personally, I would like to think of "Alox Forever" is not about the craze of price, but the appreciation of it. :)

Rather than an end of 'Alox Forever' it may be more of a bubble bursting?

I do wonder if the rumours of Vic discontinuing Alox helped to drive the prices up?

On a different note, look at the prices of Wenger SIs. Even non date stamp models have added ten to fifteen pounds to their value
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

I noticed another trend. New listings of 84mm Alox models are way down. Perhaps the lower prices are deterring potential sellers.
