So I bought a red cadet for my whittling knife work in progress. Before I disassembled it I resurrected on how really awesome it felt. Now I need another cadet, this time to keep and use. I've been broke since start of December and I will be buying a used outrider come end of month but I really feel a need for another cadet. Does anyone have a cadet for sale? I'd like any colour but default!(Image removed from quote.)

Have you tried polishing that Pioneer X's blade to get rid of the weird text that's on it?

Weird text...? Weird text...? Weird text...? Weird text...?   :twak: :twak: :twak:

Much more pronounced on the Pioneer than the 1970's Mountaineer I am comparing it to. But it sure doesn't affect its use.

Thanks Jaya

Having just received a silver Alox Pioneer as a gift from the GF, I placed the 1990 BSA black Tinker on the work bench and began carrying the Pioneer daily.

Couple days ago, I ran some comparison tests between the Pioneer, the BSA Tinker, my 2017 Camper II, and the Leatherman Rebar. The tests included making feather sticks from, boring a hole into, and sawing through a stick about as big around as my thumb.

Everything did ok with some exceptions good and bad. Obviously the Tinker has no saw, nor does the Pioneer, so they did not enter the saw competition. Everything else sawed more or less the same. The Rebar main blade locks, but has a little play. It shaves fire sticks ok but I'd rather use a SAK for that, given the choice.

All of these have an all/ punch/ reamer of some sort. If you want a wider hole and some digging in your Palm, use the Rebar. If you want an odd, T-handle that does fold on you when using the awl, use a cellidor with backspring awl. The care needed in the backspring awl use makes the job take a long time.

But if you really need to bore out the holes of a wooden flute or a cribbage board, or need to make holes In wood for any other reason, quickly, precisely, and with a natural ergonomic ease of use - the Pioneer was excellent for this. With the first quarter to half turn, the Pioneers reamer had already dug deeply enough into the wood so as to feel stable there. Just REALLY nice

I could consider going all small-tool and get a Farmer and pair it with a Leatherman PS4. No belt sheath necessary, lighter than a Rebar, and still get the lions share of my non dedicated tool tweaking done

Yep, I thought of pairing my orange Lm Juice with a Farmer... sadly I don't have a Farmer - but theoretically it's a great combo.

Funny. I don't have a Farmer either, but running through my comparison, I also used my PS4 to make feather sticks. It wasn't as adept, but it got me thinking what I could pair it with that would compliment it well...came up with Farmer for the saw and bigger blade.

forgive my extremely poor English level, but i don't really know what "Beaming Over" means

Beam? = No problem
do (sth) over? = No problem
those two together...

I assume DT is using "beam" as a Star Trek or sci-fi reference, meaning to teleport.  "Over" used in that context is basically like taking the object from one location to another.  So, it could be restated as, "Can you teleport one to my location."

Hopefully that helps clarify and not add to the confusion  :tu:

I appreciate the explanation.

I'm a fan of Star Trek myself but I've seen them in Spanish so "beaming someone" it's said with different words.
But now I remember, "Beam me up scotty!!"  in the new J.J. Star Trek Trilogy   :D

not Alox pic, but this one is from the Spirit 30 Day Challenge tortilla day

it was squishier and much more onion-flavored   :salute:
