Identification of "Bijou"
on: August 10, 2014, 02:24:38 PM
Just got home from a flea market where I found this odd 58mm Victorinox that I of course couldn´t resist.

Where there is normally the vic shield, there is a stamp "Bijou" in script style.
Main diffrence from classic: It has no splitring attachment.
On the blade it is stamped "VICTORINOX SWITZERLAND STAINLESS ROSTFREI"
The tweezers are all steel, not plastic in the joint.
The nail file does not have a flat driver tip.

Other than that, the tools are much "snappier" than the new 58mm versions. The scale tools sit much tighter in the scales.
I like it.

I wonder what model it is and if anyone has a clue around what year it is fabricated. My feeling is early 80's.

Hm, sounds like a bijou to me  ;)

Bijou with Nail Cleaner was manufactured 1980-1987.
Aluminum tweezers were discontinued in 1978 so probably they still had some in stock or someone replaced them...

Thanks,
These however have the vic shield, and no "bijou" stamp as mine has.
This variation is not mentioned in the sakwiki.
The tweezers also seem to differ.
Anyone recognize and know fabrication years?

Interesting, Ive never seen a Bijou that said 'Bijou' on it.  I wonder if that's a sales model or display model.
PM me or email sakmodder [at] gmail . com if you are looking for custom SAK work.

I think it could be like you say that it was a display model. Maybe an early one since it has all metal tweezers which were produced until -78 while Bijou models started production -80.

I think I may have cracked it.
There was a brand of type writers "Bijou" that has a logo that is very similar, with what is printed on the knife.
It could quite simply be a company logo. It´s just a curious detail that the brand is Bijou just like the model of victorinox.

If my company was called Bijou and I wanted to give away a sak... It's a no-brainer what model I'd choose.  :D

Ahhh well that makes sense!

It does.

The only thing that is surprising is that a comany that must have seen the end coming faster than lightning with the introduction of computers and word processors, decided to make give away SAKs.
Maybe desperate times call for desperate measures.  :)
