A little bushcrafting today.

We got some rain yesterday, so I figured this morning I would go out practice some of my fire making skills while everything was wet.
Used my Sog tomahawk to chop up some logs I cut off a dead tulip poplar tree.
Battoned some of the wood into smaller pieces with my Mora Bushcraft Black. Love this knife.
Used my Mora again to make some shavings.
Used the bark from the poplar tree that I cut to make a few logs to make a birds nest.
Unfortunately, I could not get a pic while I was striking the flint with the steel.
FIRE!!! Oh yeah.....
Now add the shavings.
Now the small stuff that I battoned ealier.
Now the wood I chopped with the tomahawk.
Then add the wet stuff.
That's us mobile.

Are you backing your charcloth onto duct tape? Thats actually kinda brilliant.
Looks like a good day out. We've been having an amazing summer and because of everything going sideways for the past couple months, I haven't been able to get out and play a single. Blasted. Weeekend.

No duck tape involved. But I use old cotton canvas to make char. Does not fall apart easily and makes for one hell of a hot ember.
Hopefully you will be able to get out soon and get some dirt time. Fall will be coming soon. Thats my favorite time to go out. Maybe this fall will work out better for you.

Thanks for the pics! It looks like you had a good time and got a chance to practice some skills. I should probably practice my fire making skills more often...

Ooooh..... I feel stupid.
You're using a white stone, that's what was behind the char cloth. I posted after my bedtime, it's the only excuse for that I've got.

Great pics mate. I need to get myself a good flint and steel set, the one I have is just a little too small to be easy to use. Great looking kit as well.
