Black Oxide Wave + after using WD 40 on it
on: June 11, 2020, 03:17:10 PM
Hey, today I just got my new Black Oxide Wave + (my first leatherman ever), I saw that Leatherman recommends WD 40ing it to make the black finish come off so I went ahead and used WD 40 on it.

I then read online that using WD 40 on your Wave + might not be a good idea since it collects dust and it might ruin the Leatherman, I need some advice as to what to do next so my Leatherman doesn't get ruined.
Thank in advance.

The best way that I have found to give a BO tool a weathered look is with extra fine steel wool. I would recommend wearing gloves after I cut my finger and needed stitches. WD40 isn’t the best product, but it won’t ruin the tool unless it sits unused for a long period of time. Cotton swabs work fairy well for cleaning it. I saw on a forum a LM engineer said that they use Hoppe gun oil. I bought a bottle with the needle applicator. Works great. 3 in 1 oil also now has some nice products out, as well.

Just give it a good wipe down with a clean cloth. BO will naturally wear with use . WD 40 is fine for cleaning but I use plain mineral oil or 3in1 oil to lube the pivots.

Welcome to the forum BTW !

Welcome to :MTO:  WD40 is fine as long as you just wipe the tool down with it but it will build up given a chance  :ahhh just don't give it a vinegar bath (don't ask me how I know    ) ;)

:iagree: about about 3in1 or mineral oil :tu:
