What's a good price for used SwissChamp XLT?
on: June 24, 2008, 03:03:55 AM
I'm looking to buy a SwissChamp XLT and have found one in used/very good condition for $80. Being that I have no market knowledge of this SAK I was wondering how well this price stacked up for being second hand. Good deal or just so-so?

I don't think it is a good deal.. I paid about $120 for mine- brand new.. Did you see a pic of it or anything? If it is in great condition then I'd go for it.. But, if it is used then no way!

I think $80 for a Champ XLT in excellent condition is a very fair price considering that on eBay, a USED item will fetch bids within 10% of the price for a NEW one.  It just takes 2 idiots to bid up the price of any item, and there is a good chance that there will always be idiots looking at the same items you are.

I'd go for it.

That really drives me nuts. I can't count the number of times that, when shipping was factored in as well, I have seen a used item go for more than the new price including shipping! And whenever I list something, I am lucky to get 25%...  :P

And there seems to be an endless stream of people willing to pay that much for used junk. Sometimes I look up the winners' history, and often they have hundreds of recent unrelated purchases. So my theory is that they are simply eBay addicts and the items themselves are of secondary importance.

That's a good deal if its in great shape.    I lucked out and found one for $80 new on ebay a few months ago and felt like I stole it.

Sweet. I sent paypal today and will update when it arrives. There isn't much I could find out there for this tool as far as user reviews and pictures so I'll do a little write-up too.  :)

I have an XLT and yet I'm still eager to read your review!

You do great reviews.  I think you could make a living doing it.

Sort of. I'm only really interested in the models that are close to analogus to a full-feature multi; like the Workchamp, Mechanic, Atlas and a few others. I've tried to collect the smaller/less equipped models but I just never stay interested and don't carry them for more than a few days. This is always open to change though, I try a few new SAKs every six months or so to see if I've caught the bug yet.

I wanted the XLT because of the gadget factor and the overall implement selection gives me a nice broad overview of the available tools for SAKs.

Yeah, that makes sense.. Your next SAK has to be the Workchamp XL! IMO, it is the best SAK ever!

Aren't these Saks (Swisschamp/Workchamp) too big to really use?  They look very unweildly

I have never had any issues using my Swisschamp, however, I do think it's at the limit of becoming too large.
I'm back!!

I think the Swiss Champ and even the XLT are okay in the hand, but push the envelope of too big for the pocket.

At this size, maybe Vic should make a very slim leather wallet combo SAK pouch.  You could lose your traditional wallet, and keep your cash and credit cards in a pocket on the SAK pouch.
