[CLOSED] Giveaway! Cologne Climber
on: August 13, 2014, 10:44:30 PM
2500 posts and my birthday flew past uncelebrated and last month was full of giveaways anyways - I think August is just as good for a nice Giveaway celebrating this awesome site.

I have bought a Climber printed with the cologne cathedral that I will give away one week from now.

All you have to do is post a link of a famous spot/building/artwork in your hometown and tell us what it is and post your name, too.
Own pics are preferred, but a borrowed one will work.

Please copy the names of the other entries, too. I´ll draw a name and send out the knife.
Easy, isn´t it? Then let´s go...

Nice thing about being on the outskirts of London,is you have the choice of the sublime( bridge in the Mole Valley) or the ridiculous( the Dalek  I mean the Shard)

Here's a shot of the Tyne Bridge at Newcastle-upon-Tyne at the start of the Great North Run, the largest & most famous half marathon in the world.
By the way, the Aussies pinched the bridge design for their effort at Sydney.

Thanks for this great chance Thomas.  :tu:

thanks for the chance. as my entry I'll go with Lotrščak tower. It's an old fortification from the 13th century (at least to my knowledge). The biggest attraction about it is that since January 1st 1877 the canon within it is fired every day at noon sharp. The reason for that was to give the bell-ringers a signal to do their job, although the folk tale says that it's a commemoration of the events leading up to the Battle of Sisak in 1593.
The story says that Zagreb was being besieged by the Ottoman army and by accident the only cannon in the town's defenses was fired from that very tower. The cannonball flew into the Ottoman army's leader's tent, hit some bird of a plate and caused them to retreat in haste fearing an impending attack.

the pics aren't mine

The Thisseon (temple of Hephestus)

Piraeus with 4 ports, used since antiquity

Just stepping in to thank Lowtech for being very generous, and a good friend to many of us.  I'll pass on this one for those who haven't gotten this Cologne Climber/Tourist.  But do like to share a few pix of my home town, Hong Kong, with everyone:

I never did read his book, but I get what you mean.  The city does give you that kind of vibe sometimes, totally different feel from many beautiful scenic shown here.

If you look at the last picture carefully, I think that housing complex were actually featured in the latest Transformer movie.

Earthquakes.  Christchurch is no longer anything like what you may remember.

I have lots of stories about it, but so far I haven't felt brave enough to share.

Lucky 13, eh? >:D Well it's the reverse from my usual entry number so we'll see.

My entry is the Union building in my home town. Built in 1903 as a trade casino, served at some point in history as a library and is now used by various unions for their needs.

The old town around which the city was built.

And the St. Nikola church. ;)

The legend says there's a green dragon Pozoj sleeping underneath the city, his head under the old town and tail and legs under the church.
