I've found the same difference between the Vic Deluxe Tinker and the Wenger Tradesman.
Same tool set; Wenger is less bulky and I like their pliers and can opener better than Vics.

Swiss Champ. Better fit and finish, better materials.

The 80s and early 90s Wengers are why I am not a fan of Wengers. Of course, 25-30 years later, that Swiss Champ can beat the newer, thinner bladed, thinner scaled Vics that are being made now, to.

I vote the Wenger Champ (OK easy choice: I don't have a SwissChamp) 

Mine must be around 25 years old by now. After a lot of use the main damage is: broken point on main blade, lost tweezers, toothpick broken, corkscrew starting to wiggle now (after opening 1000+ bottles of wine). Plus it's dirty: I have never cleaned it, all I did is apply some WD40 some time. Maybe I should clean it (I'm lazy), I read somewhere people put it in cola overnight but somehow that cleaning method scares me somewhat. Anway...great SAK

I've not read the article on your blog, as I don't tend to follow links offsite ... 

That said, to me I have the Vic Champion (not got a Swisschamp, and not a huge fan of the 91mm pliers) and the Wenger Tool Chest (not got a Champ). The Wenger lives in my car on a semi-permanant basis, but the Champion hardly ever sees any use or carry from me at all. Even without the pliers layer, the whole thing is a bit too much for me to lug around ..... although I do have a CT41 which is also on the large size which I keep in a tool pouch that tend to be a "grab and go" kit if I get a "help" call from friends or family.
