Another little hike at the Canal.

This time, I took my Tamron 90mm f/2.8 SP Di Macro lens with me. Macro lenses are great because they give you 1:1 magnification, but the downfall to that is a very slow autofocus...because the lens has a lot of focusing track to pass through. Hence most of these are manual focused. An interesting design with the Tamron, you pull back the focusing ring to enter manual focus, and push it forward to engage auto focus. It is a bit clunky in the field...but does allow quick focus mode changes...and if you are real good, you can do it whilst looking through the viewfinder. Towards the end of my little field excursion, I was getting there lol. It was also a windy day, and the challenge of hand holding a macro lens at 1:1 focus on a windy day was entertaining. It sure forces you to proper camera holding techniques.

Anyhow, enough with the hot air, and onto the photos. I hope you enjoy them. It was great fun using this lens in the field. I should use the lens more often.

There were a few larger subjects to take photos of...

Here is a set of photos with selective focus. Thankfully, these colourful bolts helping hold a bridge together stayed static long enough for me to do this.

Lots of plants to shoot. Depth of field is very thin. Manually focusing allows you play with it. Mind you, these guys made it difficult as the wind batted them to and fro.

Getting out of macro for a moment, here is a shot of the St. Mary's river at full bore. They have the control gates wide open trying to get Lake Superior levels down. Lots of fisherman out there today.

That water was flowing fast.

Back to macro shots of flowers.

The background on this one was water. I do not consider this a macro shot.

The clouds were very nice. The photos do them no justice.

...and back to the flowers.

And bird poo...just because.

And not far away...what attracted our little deficator.

Damn, I wouldn't have recognized it was bird poo if it wasn't for your label.

I usually don't see them that up close. :D

That was a Squirrel stand off. He was giving me the evil eye as I slowly nudged closer whilst pointing a big lens in his face. After that shot, he soon jumped out and yelled at me for a few minutes. Then he calmed down and went back in to grab a few more goodies.

Thanks everyone.  :salute:
