I have ordered something that will show on this thread in maybe two weeks (maybe some more)... :D

Show content

That little unit on my bike is 750W motor with a 52V 11.3ah battery.  But I did have to assemble it myself.

I did consider "upgrading" my current bike with a e-bike kit myself (250W tho), but decided that factory built e-bike with German components instead of Chinese is worth few hundred extra euros :tu:

Yea, I've spent the last 18 months reading reviews about various options.  The price to get in with a fully assembled unit that is adequate for long distance commuting was in the $2500-3000 range.  It was just a bit steep for me, just to see if it was "doable".  The kit I bought was just over $1000 ($450 of that was just the battery pack) from Luna Cycle in California.   They say they up-spec the controller units to make them more reliable.  So far, it's been fantastic.  Hopefully durable too.

I definitely want to read your review on your new ebike.

Oh definitely, if I wouldn't have gotten good spring bonuses, I would have went with the upgrade way, the Cube e-bike was around 1800 euros, plus couple hundred in accessories.
The upgrade kit was about 1200 euros, but there is quite a difference in the bikes too, old one is 26" 3x7, new one is 29" 1x10...

Just to wait for couple weeks to find out how it is, ordered it from Germany as they don't even sell it over here

The basic motor on my kit is made by Bafang.  Looking around their website, Europe has much higher sales than North America.  I suspect the market for ebikes is much more competitive than here in the US.  Here, an 1800 Euro bike is mostly a folding bikes with small wheels.  Fine in a city, but not what you'd want for longer distance commuting.

What do you think of the hub drives?

The upgrade kit I was looking for before was Bafang too, just less power, 250W, with Samsung battery I believe, 36V 13.4Ah

As for the hub motors, I would kill for a two-wheel drive bike  :pok:

They say you can put a hub motor on a front wheel of a bike with suspension.

Well, the sun came out for a moment, so here are the promised pictures of my new electric steed  :D

Fellow MTOers, Ladies, Gentlemen & Kirky, I present thee... Cube Reaction Hybrid ONE!!!  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

Couple overview pics, and yes, it's bright blue and green, 'cause that's how I roll these days :

Little closer up to the battery pack (Bosch), which is 400 Watt Hours (around 11 Ah)

User interface, consisting of the display unit and the control unit on the left:

Close-up of the motor (also Bosch)  and the drivetrain, 1x9 gears (Shimano):

And finally another overview pic from the right hand side of the bike :) :

Hmm what else...

It sports hydraulic disc brakes, which work very well (Shimano Deore  BR-M315).

The saddle is quite comfortable even for so quite narrow one, made by Selle Italia.

Also showing the Abus Bordo 6000 lock and Topeak Uni Super Tourist DX Disc rear rack.

Not yet showing SKS Shockboard XL and SKS Velo 65 Mountain 29" fenders or Cube Cubestand CMPT kickstand, all of which I hope will arrive next week :)

Enjoy! :tu:

Oh and... Let's be careful out there!

Ride safe, ride smart, have fun!

The E-bike is now pretty much fully kitted, except for the light, but I don't need that until maybe October so no rush there...

Looks great buddy, but how is it to ride?  :tu:

Having now ridden about 120km on it... I just love it, 29" wheels ride over bumps on the road a lot smoother than the old 26", and the E-assist makes hills seem like flat (also making headwinds a non-issue: Got a strong headwind? Just add a notch of assist ;) )

Just rode a 25km round trip to neighboring town for some grocery shopping and sightseeing, some 1h 20m on the bike, barely broke a sweat, avg.speed 19.7km/h :D

Only gripe I have is about the saddle, and only for the longer ride, on my commute it's perfectly fine, but in the end of today's ride I was REALLY feeling every bump on the road (and believe me, we have plenty of those :D ). So I guess I will be getting a little comfier saddle in the future.

Also as, I didn't post my range estimates in here, hilly area like here 60km to 70km depending how lazy I am and for a rider of my size obviously, official estimates reach up to 120km for riders under 85kg and using only the lowest assist, but that one I obviously cannot confirm...

I don't cycle much these days, but I still remember how much I hate headwinds.  I'd take a bit of help with that any time. :salute:

I laugh at most headwinds. Thought there are a few that really wear ya out in no time... :ahhh

Finally got my ride adjusted to me, and the Sturmey-Archer IGH adjusted. If only could afford a Schlumpf drive... /sigh

Went clipless recently. Wow, the difference these make! :D

That is VERY  worthy ride!  8)

I sure would like to try something like that in the future, although we have some steep hills over here, some maybe E-assisted

Can I share what I'm dreaming about currently? I can't afford 1% of it currently but it's nice to fantasise.

Due to recent surgeries a recliner is a very good option for me (rather than a regular bike) and I really want to get out into the outdoors.

Talking of which, finally installed a new disk brake on the bike (it's only been waiting for 6 months, the old one was worn out) and reinflated the tires. Now for the kids bike! I have a puncture to deal with there.

That makes sense, my bike being an electric bike weighing slightly more than the Empire State building, that could be the reason why the tires were flat as a pancake. :) I've got 9000km on these electric bikes but it was always a commuting tool, I never learnt much about the whole 'biking' aspect of it other than what was necessary for running maintenance on the gears, brakes and cables.

probably the reason mine don't get very flat as there pretty lightweight ,especially my cannondale, but due to needing more space in my shed I took all 3 of them apart for now  :tu: I can't wait for my Ankle to be better so I can get back out  :salute:

Did some cycling in a hilly area with many earth roads, some rutted, some just made by tractors going through fields, some decent. I drove there, to have an excuse to try a bike roof carrier thingy I have had for a few months.

The bike feels better the faster you go,begging you to push it harder.
