Surley Travelers Check

This is the Cross Check but with S & S couplers so it can be taken down and crammed into a case for travel!

All Steel and built mainly for trails that used to have rails which we have a whole lot of around here!

Now if it would only get warm for more than 1 day in a row.

My name is Peter and I'm a bike-a-holic.

From where I sit I can see eight bikes.  Admittedly four of them are "to be sold" (yeah, right) but that's a lot of bikes to have in a living room.

Of the four "keepers" there is a roadie which is an oldish "Raceline Ultra Pro Race Series" (Apollo) frameset with current 11spd 105 groupset. The frame is Aluminium with CF seat stays and a CF fork so it rides quite smoothly.

There is a 29er hardtail MTB which started life as a Fuji Tahoe Pro but a cracked frame saw a rebuild/refit that saw everything apart from the front end (forks/stem/bars) eventually replaced. It now has an Astrix Rook frame 10spd Deore driveline, M355 brakes and WTB wheels.

The third is my cobbled together e-bike which is a 1500w eBay conversion on an Avanti Voltage MTB. As it stands the 3460km that I have clocked up on it mean that it owes me nothing in the fuel savings compared to driving my Hilux the same distance.
 
And last but by no means least my most recent purchase a slightly used 2016 model Giant Cross City 0 Disc. I have messed about with it some already, it was the donor for the Deore group that went onto the 29er and it now wears 3x10spd 105 gears. This is forming the latest incarnation of my touring bike with it wearing a full set of bikepacking bags.

One of my favorite things in life! All set up to go and stay gone if I want to. Tent in the back bag, sleeping bag in the front. Everything needed, from water to fire, fly rod for fishing. You get the ideal...

It is the Pugsley. They have come out with a Wednesday, an improved model. The packs are a company out of Alaska, Revelate Design. Gear is military surplus that was new when I bought it. The tent, sleeping bag.

Very nice.  I have a Revelate Tangle bag that gets used occasionally.  My bikepacking gear is mostly UK-made Wildcat stuff.

Ok, I need a little help, me and the little guy have decided to make it a little father / son bonding thing and go around the blocks and just chat and see what’s around, last night we saw 7 deer, a cat, and even a turkey, weather was nice, kinda a sunset, but I got a problem maybe you guys can help with? I don’t have a bike so I’m using the older kids since he doesn’t use it, the problem is the seat, that thing I hard as a rock and skinny, we only rolled around for about 3miles and I was in so much pain! It doesn’t help that I haven’t ridden a bike in like 10yrs because of my health, and I shouldn’t be, but there’s like no traffic, but what can I do to make this seat a little more comforting, I ready to take a small pillow and just duct tape it!

I did look into getting a better seat but I gotta get the seat first, but I did find a pool noodle in the garage and made a little something, not pretty but much better, but gotta get a better seat! This fits under use of duct tape and a sak!

Well you should certainly upgrade the seat but I was serious about the just keep riding comment too.

When you have not used certain muscles for a while they need to be built back up too before you can expect a lot of comfort with any new exertion.

Well it’s going to be a daily thing, just not tonight cause it’s going to rain, but we did a little under 3m the other day and a little over 3m yesterday, but the most important thing is the kids talking, rather then sitting in his bedroom playing on his computer..

You should also review the height of the seat and your posture.  Bent over toward the handle bars or upright.

Your knee should be very slightly bent when the pedal is at the 6:00 o’clock position.   You should not be flat footed on ground while sitting on the seat. 

Your pain is most likely from upper muscles, working the petals, and if not extending filling they are not working as easily as they could. 

You can also slide the seat back on the rails as well. The seat is more a pivot point that your sit bones rest on, not like a kitchen chair while enjoying a meal.

For more info on seat selection and why do a search on the web for “sit bones”, you will learn much more about your bone and muscle support involved with sitting.

Thanks, we didn’t go out last night because it was raining, tonight idk, just cloudy, have to see how he’s doing after school.. I gotta look into getting a helmet, we're riding on blacktop and with my medical it would just be safe.. I don’t think I could do one of those 50 air vent ones, many more like the skate ones, besides more room to put stickers! If any info on helmets greatly appreciated!
