Super (old) Scissors
on: June 27, 2008, 12:09:20 AM
Is this the predecessor to the Micra :P    Its about 7cm long closed and works very well. I'm guessing its pretty old but I've no idea really.

Those old scissors are pretty cool NKB. Sometimes they can be found with mother-of-pearl or sterling silver or tortoise shell handles. There was also a version with a knife and fingernail file blades. Near as I can determine they first came out in the 1910's.

Does yours have any markings or logo on them?

Its nice to get an idea of age, I can't believe they're getting on for a century old.  Between handles and screw there's the word patent surrounded by a box.  I'll take a photo tomorrow when I have natural light.

Hah! I was guessing it would say patent. Not "patented" or a patent number, but just the word PATENT, right?

I'm starting to wonder if maybe these were produced by a company named "Patent".

Speaking of "patents", here's a sceenshot of the relevent one for these scissors, issued in 1907. :)

I was thinking the same thing, I wonder what happened to them or even if they're still in business today.  I can't believe you have the patent application.  I'm impressed  :salute:

Dave, I don't think they're MoP, just some creamy off white stuff; to give it its technical description.

By the way, this particular patent has a lot of significance for us multitool nuts. It is referenced in Leatherman's original patent. Because the folding handles on these scissors were already patented way back in 1907, Tim Leatherman was not able to specifically patent folding handles on plier tools in 1983. This allowed all other companies to make folding pliers too. Otherwise we wouldn't have so many brands of multitools to choose from today.
