It can happen to all countries. But China does happen to one of the biggest. But China makes what the customers want. In this case, Gerber. They want a cheap and massed produced tool for little money. On the other hand, I have seen some sweet stuff come out of China. Some Gerbers, Type 59, swords, fireworks and so on. China does make high grade stuff when they are allowed too.

Exactly. They can do the finest stuff, but off course they only make what they are paid for.

And with our globalized world the endcustomer is not in a good position to know where the single parts of a product were made. I don´t want to know how many % of, lets say, a BMW were made in China. BMW buys komponents from it´s suppliers, saying "we buy 2 million parts X, but it´s price need to be under 100€". The supplier has to deliver for that price and still make it´s own profit, who knows if the supplier buys the electronic full or in parts from China? Or the electronics for Miller welding machines. Or .....
Same for every country worldwide, no matter what "made in ...." is written on.

And you can bet that your flatscreen/stereo is mainly or completely made in China.

There are given rules what is needed to call a end-product "made in ..." - and you would wonder how less from that country is needed to be allowed to print it on. We don´t have to like that, but we need to accept it.

Have fun.

Bye,
Michael

Enough with the xenophobia  :twak:

Some good and some good comes from all countries. I now have four Gerber Dimes and one of them has seen a lot of use and pocket carry with no problems at all. I had the scissors on a Leatherman Style PS break with hardly any use, but I don't say all American products are bad! I know some people don't have much love for the Dime, but I personally prefer it to the Leatherman Squirt ... even if the pliers backspring probably isn't as robust. It still offers similar scissors, a better knife blade, a package opener, a far better bottle opener, and tweezers

I have to agree with Al regarding xenophobia.  Let's behave here, gentlemen.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

The dime is bad because of what Gerber was happy with and not because of where it was made. Nobody complains about the Chinese spydercos.

hi, Upon close inspection the scissors is broken. How come the metal broke without force? I called up the shop. They asked me to bring it to them to make warranty claim.
