A lurker no more
on: September 11, 2014, 03:34:31 PM
Hey there,

I've been a lurker on the forum for a while now.
One of Grant's posts about the Biolite Stove enticed me to post. Although I am sure I will still do more lurking than posting.

the big question is; has Grant gotten you into carrying a multitool and, if so, which one?

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

I always have my Leatherman Freestyle in my purse. I find it to be quite useful day-to-day. I also carry a Swiss army knife in there daily- it's a Silvertech Climber by Victorinox.

I work inside, so I try my best to spend as much time outside as possible on the weekends. I am really into camping, fishing, kayaking and archery. I also enjoy outdoor cooking, grilling and smoking. 'Outdoors' - seems to be the theme I guess.

I am certainly not a collector- but I tend to be interested in gadgets and tools that go along with my activities. I wear a Boker canoe/kayak knife when paddling etc. I was always the kid growing up who had a knife or tool on them.

Welcome. My wife is the same way.  She loves gadgets, but isn't a collector.  What's your stance on flashlights?  My wife didn't really think much about them, until I gave her a SS Maratac 1XAAA.  Now, she's never without one.  ;)

Sounds like a good kit, but we'll have to find you a nice flashlight.

Would you like something for the keyring or purse, twist to turn on or a clicky switch? :)

Your wife's non-collection would put a few guys collections to shame. ;) I know we have a few threads here with her secret stashes, CV Pocketwrenches and blue Juices. :)

Tiny, powerful and easy to use.  Extremely handy to find things you drop under the seat of your car, or buried deep in a purse (or slipped under a couch/bed etc).  Not much bigger than a single AAA battery.

I have a black CRKT NIRK knife and a little pink Generation 2 SOG Micro Tool Clip along with a few other things I suppose.
I would probably want something that could go on my key ring with a clicky switch. Any suggestions?

AAA powered with a clicky switch might be a bit dificult as most of them come with a twisty interface.

Maybe the Lumintop Tool, http://www.ebay.com/itm/321104640646

Don't have one yet, but there are some members here who do so they might give you some more first hand knowledge on them.

Clickies are always a bit larger/longer cause of the extra space for the switch at the back.

I've only carried those two for a few months now. I use the Freestyle more than anything. Mostly for the knife I suppose.
The Freestyle has easily become a favourite.

welcome to the forum, Megan! :waving:

I'll go ahead and add some fuel to the fire and suggest a couple other lights for you. :D my wife carries a LED Lenser P3 AFS (single AAA, clicky) in her purse and loves it. (she also recently admitted that she uses it far more than she thought she would when I suggested she keep it in her purse.) I pocket carry an Olight i3s (single AAA, twisty) and love the versatility provided by the UI.

you'll find plenty of people here who are more then willing to help you find tools/knives/lights that you "need". ;)

However, after visiting an outdoor show on the weekend and playing around with a recurve- I want one of those too.
