Marlboro Vics
on: September 16, 2014, 05:02:38 AM
I'm interested in the Marlboro line of knives.  I've searched the forum and there seems to be information here and there, but no comprehensive single thread discussing these.

I currently have a Troubleshooter and an Outdoorsman.  I'd like to get a Trail Guide but there don't seem to be any currently available (at least not on ebay).

I know there is also a Spartan, called a Standard by Marlboro apparently, but without keyring.  This knife is widely available today, but usually for inexplicably inflated prices.  Also, I think a Classic, or perhaps another 58mm, was available from Marlboro.

Am I missing any models?

Also, what was the original timeframe that these knives were available new?

And, does anybody have any scans of the Marlboro catalogs that offered these knives?

Thanks in advance to anybody who can provide any information.

I've had two, one got lost or stolen, it was a smaller one more like a climber, and I still have a troubleshooter.  It's pretty nice, but too large for pocket carry, at least for me.  I see them pretty often on ebay, they don't seem expensive.  I don't have a list of which were made with the Marlboro trademark.

List at bottom:

I have a couple of Outdoorsman models, two Trouble Shooters (both Vic and Marly) and a couple of Trail Guides...I really like the Marly models!!!

The Trail Guide is an almost perfect EDC for me!

Based on information on SmartKnives and SakWiki, the 58mm model that I took to be a Classic is an Illuminator, basically a renamed SwissLite.

So, the lineup looks to be (from small to large):

Illuminator
Adventure Team (or Standard--Spartan without keyring, also Basic and Economy versions were available)
Trail Guide
Troubleshooter
Outdoorsman

You're welcome and they come up on the bay every couple of months....one just sold for 100.00 but I usually see them at 25-40 dollars.

Here's my EDC, it had a damaged Plus side scale so I replaced it.
